Union (or "Onion" as some of us like to call it)

Well, in my opinion, and probably many others, this is the worst excuse for a Yes album there could ever be. Really, this is an album that should have never been recorded. Sure, the tour may have been spectacular, but the album they supported (which they didn't support it at all. They hated it with ...

Alan's backing vocals

OK, I know this seems kinda weird, but every time i listen to drama, mag, 90125, ladder, and OYE, I keep trying to figure out Alan's voice. Does anyone know what he sounds like? We all know what Jon, Chris, Steve, Trevor H., Trevor R., and Billy sounds like, but what does Alan's voice sound like? I ...

Yes, STARCASTLE does sound like them...

Did anyone here ever hear of the 70's prog band Starcastle? I know this kinda belongs in the Alternate Tunes area, but I just thought I'd share this album with everybody. It's fantastic. This band sounds like a combination of Yes, Styx, and a touch of Kansas. The 10 1/2 minute lead-off track "Lady O...

Jon's Animation album

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Jon's Animation album. I know his old website had a petition on it for Atlantic Records to put it on to CD, but all I know is that it's only available on cassette. I've only heard three songs from it (the title track, All In A Matter Of Time, and Surrender)...

XYZ Demos

Does anyone know about this very, very, very short-lived band with Jimmy Page, Alan White, and Chris Squire? I have three of the supposed four songs that they had recorded. The original Mind Drive (if it was originally called that), Telephone Secrets, and the original Can You Imagine. Can anyone she...

I have a question

I know this question is not really regarding Yes, but a certain former Yesman, Trevor Rabin. He's a really gifted and talented musician and his major taste of success was in a band in his native South Africa (a country I'd love to check out someday) called Rabbitt. Well, I can't find any of their al...

Close To The Edge - live or studio?

Well, we all know that Close To The Edge has been released three time over: the studio album in '72, live on Yessongs in '73, and on the Keys albums in '96-'97. Which one do you prefer? In my opinion, I prefer the live version of the album on Yessongs because it has kind of a "young" feel to it, if ...

Yes Remixes?.... and news about the live box set

Well, by what the Yesworld site says, there's gonna be a Yes remix album featuring classic songs like Tempus Fugit, Starship Trooper, AWAKEN, HEART OF THE SUNRISE, and RITUAL. Note that the reason I put the latter three songs in all caps is because I think it's pathetic to have remixed versions of t...

Just some ideas for a live box set

We all know that a live box set is set to come out sometime next year and I know that all of us are wondering what will be included on it. I have some ideas that I would like to share with everybody. No BG re-issue?

Just yesterday I bought the Rhino re-issue of CTTE and I was truly amazed! Inside the cover there, as with all the other remasters, was a little ad card for In A Word and Yes merchandise and all of the other albums being remastered by Rhino and I saw in 2004, there will be Tormato, Drama, and 90125,...

The Ultimate Yes Tribute album

I know there are a few Yes tribute albums on the market, Tales From Yesterday, Rick Wakeman's couple Two Sides Of Yes and The Revealing Songs Of Yes albums, maybe more than that. Some of those albums do represent some of Yes' best work, but not to the fullest extent. What songs do you all think woul...

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds Of Fire

For anyone who does not have this CD, get it!!! It is some of the best instrumentation I have ever heard in my life!!! Ultimate Albums

This may be a strange idea, but anyone who watches VH1, if you do watch it, know about the show Ultimate Albums. Wouldn't it be great if VH1 could an Ultimate Albums show about TFTO or CTTE or even GFTO? It was just a thought I had. They already AC/DC's Baqck In Black and Metallica's black album and...

My, and hopefully others', thoughts on OYE

People, OPEN YOUR EYES is not as bad as a lot of you may think or say. Sure, its sound leans more towards the Rabin-era Yes, but it is no way in Hell unlistenable or unlikeable. So what if most of the album was written by Chris and Billy?! Wasn't TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS (my all-time favorite Y...

I think everyone forgot to wish Trevor Rabin a happy birthday yesterday. I can't believe he is 50 freakin' years old!!! He looks nowhere near it either. 90125 - Great Re-remastering job!!!

I must say, Rhino did a hell of a great job remastering 90125. It sounds very spaciouis and clear and you can hear everything separately, not that you couldn't before, but Rhino just did a better job. I love every song on this album except for Our Song, not that it's bad, it's still a good tune, but...

Yes - Topographic

I bought this boot 2 years ago. It's got kinda decent quality for an audience recording. I'd say a B- or C+, but worth listening to. It's got all four sides and a BBC broadcast of "Revealing." Plus for the live "Revealing it has the extended intro with Jon talking to audience, basically introducing ...

an obvious nod to Rick

I borrowed this quote from The Mars Volta's website... "It’s unapologetically progressive music: unencumbered by genre, unafraid of seriousness, reverberating with new ideas at every turn. "I guess the concept of prog music is always frowned upon," says Cedric. "It was the dinosaur that the new kids...

Keith Emerson's Hammond assaults

I was listening to a live bootleg version of Fanfare For The Common Man with Rondo at the end of it and I was wondering how in the bloody hell did he make his organ sound the way it did. Why don't someone just start playing something and then we can all join in? If anyone's able to play a Yes song, then there should be no need for a MIDI file or anything like that. ELP - Black Moon

What's everyone's take on this one? I know it's definitely not as good as anything in their 70's heyday, but it still is a solid effort. Songs like the title track, the funky "Paper Blood," and the dynamic instrumental "Changing States" really make this album worthwhile. Greg's acoustic balld "Affai...
