Re: Going to the show at the Meadows tomorrow!

Review please. And the setlist. I saw them last year [and really enjoyed it - I bought the desk mix - although it wasn't available on the night]. The best some of us can do with this tour is experience it vicariously.

I wouldn't expect you to pull any punches, but I think you'll be surprised...

Re: "Re-creating Tour"

He contributed what are IMO the best two tracks on the new Asia album and he really is 'smoking' throughout that. I don't know what it is, but in the last two or three years Steve seems to have really come alive again. He's never been less than exceptional, but there does seem to be a renewed vitali...

Re: Asia's "Phoenix" and "Omega"

Having now listened to Omega - a lot - the misgivings I had were happily unfounded. It should almost go without saying that the lyrics are best put out of mind (although I doubt the two Howe/Wetton tracks are Wetton lyrics). Well unless you want a laugh that is. 'Finger on the Trigger' does actually...

Re: Asia's "Phoenix" and "Omega"

Omega has just arrived. I haven't listened to it yet so your opinion is a little foreboding. I was a little surprised to note that Wetton is [presumably] writing the lyrics on Howe's two tracks this time out. Previously I've found Steve's lyrics a bit of a relief from the painfully obvious, trite no...

Re: "Re-creating Tour"

It seemed far more commonly in use in the 70s - Focus used it [if I'm not mistaken] wonderfully on the eponymous Mother Focus - probably Ackerman, but I've also seen Van Leer use a similar tube-device live, so you never know.

Re: HOLY SHIT! Do I really have two front row seats to see Renaissance? Pinch me.

Presume this is only N America? Shame because it sounds like a wonderful double-bill. Interesting to hear Brislin's playing with them. I thought his work on the Symphonic tour was the most outstanding keyboard stuff I've heard from Yes live [much as I love his personality, that includes Rick, too]. ...

Re: "Re-creating Tour"

Watch out for the virus/malware warnings that pop up when browsing certain bits of Forgotten Yesterdays. I was warned that it scanned my Home/C: D: and E: drives [in spite of the fact I clicked cancel and tried to close the window]. It detected a large number of Windows security issues with my syste...

Re: Avatar - Rant #1

The actors in Titanic have shown themselves to be very able performers in other films, even if they're not amongst my personal favourites. Just about any actor can be made to look pretty lame by an awful script and whereas there are those [Jack Nicholson and Anthony Hopkins come to mind] who can tur...

Re: Getting a bit sick and tired...

Jon and Rick have toured together quite recently, haven't they? That seems to be a long-standing alliance [Rick and Jon departed at the same time pre-Drama]. Superficially it seems kind of strange because you'd have to say in terms of character [what we 'officially' know of them] they seem to have t...

Re: Getting a bit sick and tired...

I'm having no trouble logging on either. As for the Jon news, I'm becoming wearisomely accustomed to news of pending projects which turn out to be no more than wishful thinking, whether from fans, or Jon himself. I rather suspect some of that scepticism and impatience has in no small way contributed...

Re: Avatar - Rant #1

I watched it the other night and I did so in cognisance of this thread. It was pleasant to look at - not especially groundbreaking in that regard, but certainly it was a good example of what is achievable with CGI these days. FX are and always should be an instrument for conveying a story rather tha...

Re: I keep getting PM'd SPAM from "ForumAdministrator"!

Ditto. Seems every time I visit I have another one, so forum ops are getting just as much of this crap as anyone else. I think only Ed or N2 would have the power to do anything about this and even then it probably takes some watching. I don't think any of us are in any position to complain there's n...

Re: Wow where'd everybody go?

Again nice to see some responses from some old familiar names! Yeah Happy I too heard about some new material and the Drama-ness of the situation I find hilarious it's like 30 years to the day of the same thing with the 3 core instrumentalists and a new singer and keysman. And yeah chris Im sure no...

Re: Wow where'd everybody go?

Who comes around? There are just a few of us who don't appear to know we're dead yet (30? Pah!) I suppose things have become progressively quieter as the band has become more and more inactive. Personally I really enjoyed the gig I saw in November, but with the absence of any new material there does...

Polymorph

(Yup Red Dwarf - I think Rimmer's Committee for the Liberation and Integration of Terrifying Organisms and their Rehabilitation Into Society is one of the cleverest and funniest segments in all sitcoms - I was working with a few of those 'invigilator' types at the time).

Re: AVATAR - Cammeron should be ashamed

I haven't seen the film, so can't really comment about specifics of stylistic debt - it may well be there. But you can hardly ascribe the concept of aerial habitats to Dean - they've been around for millennia. The realm of Asgard was connected to the Earth (Midgard) via a rainbow bridge 9although it...

Re: Jon and Rick Disappointed

Hi folks. Just checking in. I'd say Rick would be perfectly happy calling the band Yes if Jon and Oliver were in it. I think he is simply magnifying the point by showing that two "members" are missing. But he did apparently recommend Oliver and I think his real hurt is for Jon. Nontheless I think t...
