Steve Howes' Carpet

Don't know whether this should be in Musicians or Trivia... but I've been watching the Symphonic DVD and I've noticed that Steve spends the entire concert standing on a rather lush carpet. Does anyone know why?? If the whole stage were carpeted would he feel inclined to move about a bit more (or wou...

XM Radio shows

According to Yesworld, Yes are to play an acoustic set in early August on XM radio in the US. They will also be broadcasting the show from Aug 9th 2 weeks later. Does anyone know if you can listen to these online - as XM radio appears to be a US only digital Radio service.

Glastonbury??!!

According to Yesworld, Yes are considering whether or not to play at the 2003 Glastonbury festival. They have an email address where you can suggest to the organisers of the festival how great it would be if Yes play there, so get emailing!!! I think this would be an incredible opportunity for the b...

Steve Howe's Remedy???????

Steve's site says he has a new project out in the autumn - a mix of Prog and jazz rock (presumerably with a band). Does anyone know anything about this - I've searched the net and can find hardly anything... Hope the guys have kept some ideas back for a new Yes album - what with Conspiracy out at th...

Symphony X

Anyone heard anything by Symphony X? Man they're good. Sort of like a heavy Dream Theatre meets Iron Maiden. With Orchstral parts and choirs thrown in too. The guitarist (Michael Romeo) is simply stunning, and the rest of the band are no slouches either - Great vocals too. Check out 'V- The New Myth...

Strange goings on at Q magazine

I was perusing the music section at the local newsagents when I noticed the latest issue of 'Q'. I had a peek, and noticed that in the reviews section the 'Ultimate Yes' album gets 4 stars and a decent review, citing the bands excellent performance at Glastonbury (which Q Panned mercilessly)and star...

We Want Information

After listening once again to the marvelous live tracks on Yesspeak I feel a certain frustration. When and where are they from? Surely it is not too much to ask that this information be included somewhere in the package? Obviously the tracks are not all from the same concert - all of Jon's speech ha...

Gates of 633 Squadron?

Gates. The Battle section - it's been bothering me for years. Where have I heard that keyboard line before? Finally I think I have the answer. Fot those who don't know, 633 Squadron is a classic World War II movie about an RAF bombing raid, dutifully repeated every year on British TV around Christma...

The Tangent - Second Album Details

I was just taking a look at http://www.thetangent.org and they have some information about work on the second Tangent album. If it's half as good as "The Music that Died Alone" it will be worth keeping an eye on. Especially considering the description of the fourth and final track:- "and the closing...

Steve Howe's Remedy - Live Review

Well, what a night - just got back from the opening night of the Remedy European tour and what fun it was. Steve was a little nervous at first but soon was obviously having fun, jumping up, sticking his leg out, and really getting down to some fabulous guitar with his band. They opened with 'Small A...

Live box set - Bad News

Found this on the DPRP site:- Yes, Where are they now? reports that the Yes 3CD career spanning live set that Rhino Records was to release this summer has been delayed until 2005. The project has entered dire waters now that David McLees, the Rhino operative who oversaw the ...

From a keyboard perspective 'Madrigal' has got to be up there - and it only really feels right when you try it on a real harpsichord (as does the solo in Siberian Khatru...) but my favourite keyboard parts are the Hammond solo in CTTE, and the piano part (sadly missing on Yesshows) from GFTO. Intere...

Chris had an interview in Bass Player magazine around about the time 'Ladder' came out in which he talked about the effects he use4d in the '70s. My memory is a bit hazy on it (lost the mag:( )but I think he was using a Mutronics pedal of some kind and he also said he uses a box made in the late '60...

Roundabout is a great song - I just wish they'd play it in the middle of a concert rather than at the end. Lots of people were a bit tired of Starship Trooper until the Masterworks tour where it suddenly appeared in the main body of the setlist - it reinvigorated the song and rekindled peoples enthu...

I've been using Steinberg Clean v3.0 - about £30 (don't know about dollars...have a look on amazon for a description) - it uses various algorithms and filters and allows you to decide how much of the Snap crackle and pop you remove. Results with Classical and Jazz LP's have been remarkably good for ...

An Andromeda A6 would be nice, as would a Minimoog and Mellotron obviously. I wouldn't want a 2600 - heard bad things about reliability. In my dreams I'd have a GX1 and a Waldorf Wave, and of course a DX1 for those clear bell like tones without the noise- however I hear there are only about 20 in th...

Hmmm, hadn't thought of that - it does make sense, although if you're right it would be a bit disappointing. I was hoping for some deep spiritual meaning to it - maybe it's a 'Magic Carpet'

That's not a bad idea...My name is borrowed from Arthur Clarke's "3001 - The Final Odyssey" in which the consciousness of Dave Bowman and HAL have become merged through 1000 years of being a part of the Monolith orbiting Jupiter. To save breath, when it is being addressed it assumes the name HALman ...

If so we'll at least get a half decent Hammond sound this time...If he's not...then how about a Nord Lead 3 and Nord Electro, a Waldorf Q, an Alesis Andromeda, a couple of workstations (Korg Triton + fully expanded Yamaha Motif?) and a Korg hammond simulator thing.
