Re: Yessong of the Week: The Remembering...

Hi people this is my first post! In terms of musical quality, I would say that The Remembering is arguably weaker than the other tracks on TFTO (particularly the dense Ritual and Revealing Science of God) though as with many extended yes pieces, it did grow on me. As you begin to recognise all the d...

Re: Chris' best bass idea

The Roundabout bassline is very furious, HOTS is just as jagged. Though not as complex, I like squire's runs in Yours Is No Disgrace and Starship Trooper.

Re: All about Yes Musicians

I'm only 14, must be one of the youngest here! I can play most of Rick's stuff on the piano and organ (Including Roundabout solo). It's hard to learn these tunes by ear, and the only official songbook available seems to be the Alfred's Classic Albums: Fragile one (which has all the exact keyboard tr...

Re: Best Yes album cover

/. I can't decide which.

As a snake fan I may be partially inclined towards realyer, and the whole concept is generally better, but the inside of CTTE is uber-cool (But if the decision was only based on the OUTER covers then the winner is obvious).

Re: All about Yes Musicians

great to see Yes music reaching out to young folk! Welcome to this place. I suggest you contact the keyboard players/guitarists in one of the Yes tribute bands - try Max at Fragile - the UK Yes Tribute band, I'm sure he'd be keen to help young fans help to perpetuate the music. Enjoy the journey, i...

Re: Tales... would it have been better as a single album?

I must agree with Eddie Offord, though his view is bound to be slightly biased. If any parts of the album were to be considered filler, I would say it would have to be The Remembering, mainly because it's the only one that is boring in places. However, the acoustic parts are very enjoyable. If I had...

Re: GOING FOR THE ONE

Going for the one is worth buying just for Awaken!, though the other songs still rock. Apparently Awaken is not only a fan favourite, but one of the songs the whole band are most proud of. I would certainly be proud to put my name to such a symphonic composition. Is it true that Wonderous Stories wa...

Re: YES-LIVE AT MONTREUX 2003

My first encounter of the montreux concert was actually the song Don't Kill The Whale which featured on a classic rock dvd that came free with a Led Zeppelin magazine (Odd I know). Since then I havn't actually bought the dvd but I found South Side on youtube; I was interested to see how well they pu...

Re: Robert Plant...TOO Old??

They really ought to release a dvd of the 2007 reunion at the O2. It was phenomenal (what I've seen of it, on youtube). They could make millions from an official dvd release (not that they need it). Jimmy was on top form at the chinese olympic closing ceremony, but Robert seems to have become a very...

Re: Your Top Prog Voices!

Surely Freddie Mercury isn't prog? Or does this thread include opera rock :icon_wink David Gilmour and the late Rick Wright harmonised together very well in Pink Floyd, as of course, did Anderson and Squire (Not so much Howe though, his singing leaves alot to be desired). Ian Anderson has interestin...

Re: Rick's craziest Solo?

For me it has to be the church organ in Awaken.

As for other Yes keyboardists, Moraz is fantastic on Sound Chaser, and Kaye's jazzy piano on A Venture is pretty cool.

Re: "Bonus" Tracks

As part of the newest generation of Yesfans, I have only actually had access to the most recent remasters. Some people say vinyl is better quality; after all a digital recording is only a sampled copy of the original so it's hard to see how the quality could improve . Still, the arguments differ... ...

Re: Ahem, Yes song of the week???

Wonderous stories, it's nice but it's not perfect. Good in its place though. IMO the song is an appropiate length for what it has to offer, but it's basically a more catchy reprise of Turn Of The Century. I'm hoping I don't get abuse hurled at me for saying this!

Great song nonetheless.

Gates of Delirium (battle section)

Fellow Yes musicians Does anyone here know the chords/melodies to the big middle part of the Gates of Delirium? I recently bought the Complete Yes songbook but the title is somewhat misleading. (It tends to focus on lyrics and chords, skipping any major instumental sections e.g. the passage in quest...

Re: Ahem, Yes song of the week???

You wouldn't want it to be much longer than what it is - I don't think it's a hugely ambitious piece in its scope - more of a miniature. Apart from the obvious stylistic similarity (particularly in terms of the arrangement and core pace) I can't for the life of me see how you'd relate it to Turn of...

Rick Wakeman at Hampton Court - Six Wives

I saw Rick on Richard and Judy today (Fragile were on there too, briefly) and he revealed that he would be performing two shows at Hampton Court in London, to a limited audience of 5000 (I've got my tickets!) Apparently, the gig is the first EVER where the Six Wives Of Henry VIII will be played in i...
