Does Anybody Know ANYWHERE where I can find keyboard notation for Yes music?

Postby EricBliss12345 » Tue Feb 27, 2001 3:16 pm

Guitar tabs run amook, but I can't seem to find any keyboard notation. I can pick out the chord structures with no problem, but it's a bitch having to rewind that solo in Heart Of The Sunrise 5 million times to get the exact notes! Another thing I'm bound and determined to nail is the intro to CTTE where Rick plays those fast flourishes, its so hard to figure those notes out because they are so low in the mix.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Peace Always,

Eric

The Yes Complete book is probably the best you'll find as far as keyboard parts, but it doesn't have the parts you're looking for. Do you have a digital phrase sampler? They're awesome for transcribing.

If I wasn't so lazy I'd try and do a full score of it...I started doing that with Revealing Science of God and America a while ago, but didn't get that far..just little bits here and there.

During a good part of the ctte intro, Rick is playing the same 8 triplets that appear in the intro guitar solo, where they play the rise together. The only difference is that Rick is playing it at double speed. If you can't get the notes from my tab (you can't directly), I can give you the notes in the run.

Well, that is what I was hoping this forum might do. I was hoping that players besides guitarist would get in here and transcribe some of the stuff they know. But keyboardist Yesfans seem rare. I'm just glad we have you here, Eric. Now, if only I could get my sister to visit Yestalk. She could probably help you out.

I have the solo to that figured out for the most part, but I know Im playing a few of the notes wrong and I dont have a transcriber! Somebody told me the CTTE stuff, he replicates Steve's line right after the first "AHHHHH!!!! Da Da!" thingy in Solid Time Of change and just plays it double time against the rest of the band! I wish somebody wouldve documented the making of this album on film! Watching the creative process would be pretty interesting on this one!

I remember... I also thought about this and I would be delighted if someone recorded the making of Ctte... I know there are stuff in "In the Big Dream" tape but it is nothing compared to rehearsals and ideas coming...

Which sections of HOTS do you want notation from? I have a book with the sections in, such as the piano and moog solo section. As far as i am aware there is no "solo" section, as it were, but if it is the piano section you are talking about then i can get some notes for you.

Andy what book do you have? I would love to get my hands on a copy of that.

Thanks Renato! ha ha...yeah i didnt mean a solo but the part where Rick has the Moog, uh, um...solo! about 6 minutes in, i think you know what Im talkin' about. Thats what I meant though. Even the piano solo would be cool.

It would be nice to have sheet music. I cant read music well but enough to figure out what the notes are if i already know what the song sounds like.

Anyways I know this isnt all that active of a topic, but post back as soon as ya can. Thanks man!

Peace

We are two then... I used to have some flute classes on school and I do remember how to read it... well, so so. I'm going to have some classes on how to read music sheet. The guy is a new teacher and has developed a new way to learn. So, all the barriers will be down for me.

Andy: please send the scanned sheets...

I should be able to get the music in about a week's time. I would have to borrow the book from my guitar tutor, but it contains basically the entire band's parts for one piano, so you can bash your way through CTTE if you like. PArts for TYA CTTE and Fragile are in there.

I hope to get back to you with them. I hope to archive them on my website. anyone looking for yes music for keys will be able to find them then at http://yesfans.fateback.com in about a month

IgnoZac, as far as Heart of the Sunrise goes. If you haven't gotten it yet, you should pick up the ABWH - An Evening of Yes Music Plus video (or the ABWH - In the Big Dream video). They both have the same HotS on there and there's a point in there where the camera is directly over Wakeman's keys during his keyboard run and you can put the video in slow motion and figure that part. That's how my keyboard player figured it out. Never underestimate the helpfulness of live video.

That's one thing that makes it impossible for me. I'm not a keyboard player! I'm going to figure it out to play in that part in guitar 'cos there's no keys player in my band

I'll try it anyway

IgnoZac, here's an idea for one of the Wakeman parts. It's not EXACTLY the way he plays it, but it's almost impossible to play it on guitar the way he plays it on keys.

-----------------11-------------------------
---------9-10-11----11----------------------
--------------------------------------------
11-12-13---------------11-12-13-11-12-13----
-----------------------------------------8--
-------------------------------------------9

Repeat
