beatles in yes

in yesstories bill says "i suppose the beatles were the unifying factor (of yes). of course we have the beatles to thank for everything, because they proved it could be possible somehow to make crazy music and do your own artwork and be successful. so everything we did really was inspired by the beatles in the first place, but we eventually outgrew it."
well of course they did outgrow it, but did they totally leave the beatles influence behind? on my gigs i occasionally do "across the universe", among other beatles songs and some rare nights "time and a word" as an encore, if the feeling is right.
recently it struck me that there is a slight resemblence between the two songs. not so much that jon has copied john lennon but definitely been inspired. i could be very far out here, but the thought struck me. then i started thinking there might be other yes tunes where you can find beatle fragments. the acoustic guitar on "let´s pretend" (i consider that yes)imo has a little bit of george harrison in it. "here comes the sun" and "so sad" from "dark horse". i´m sure there can be other stuff.
has anyone else ever thought this way and maybe found resemblences?
i don´t mean like the "day tripper" riff on "every little thing" but in real yestunes. yes? no?

I always thought that a lot of Steve's guitar playing sounds a lot like George Harrison did on tracks like "What Goes On" and "I'm Looking Through You" off of Rubber Soul. But I've don't remember Steve saying that George Harrison was a very big influence on his playing. Maybe it's subconscious.

But in general, I find that most of Beatles-sounding Yes tunes were from the Peter Banks era. When Steve entered the scene they sort of made their own defining sound and didn't really sound like anybody except Yes.

Yes seems to have gone back to the Beatles' influence quite a bit on Magnification! First on "Magnification" itself, with its now-famous outro that sounds like "A Day in the Life". "Spirit of Survival" sounds a heck of a lot like McCartney's "Live and Let Die", and I've read comparisons between "Time is Time" and "Julia" by John Lennon (can't say for myself as I haven't heard Lennon's tune... I think it sounds like "To Be Over" myself)! The melodies throughout the album are also very straightfoward but still have a lot of sophistication to them! Does that even need to be brought up as a common point with the Beatles?

The guitar part in the middle of To Be Over always reminded me of Harrison's playing, but from his solo stuff, and I thought it was really cool, considering that I'm a die-hard Harrison fan, too...

Steve Howe has always listed George Harrison among his important influences. However, it's important to recognize how much they were BOTH influenced by Chet Atkins. Steve obviously took it a lot further than George, but you can hear Chet's influence in bits and pieces by both guitarists.
