Gates of Delirium (battle section)

Gates of Delirium (battle section)

Postby thehallway » Sat Feb 28, 2009 11:05 pm

Fellow Yes musicians

Does anyone here know the chords/melodies to the big middle part of the Gates of Delirium?

I recently bought the Complete Yes songbook but the title is somewhat misleading. (It tends to focus on lyrics and chords, skipping any major instumental sections e.g. the passage in question, and a lot of stuff from Tales, CTTE, etc..) This is very frustrating!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry I can't help you but I'll say I share your frustration with that book if it's the same one I bought years ago. It really is a serious let down.

Northern-UK based Yestribute band SeYes perform this track & there drummer has said that he's never had to concentrate so hard & count so much, he also sez that even then it's sometimes better to just 'feel it' & not play too strictly to what's written.

I remember my own choirmaster years ago saying that musical notation is an imperfect way of recording what the composer 'feels' but it's the best we've got..

So, Hallway, you could maybe contact SeYes & see if they can help you!

Yeah, I have that too and it's pretty much a waste of money. I read somewhere that were some pretty good Japanese tab books of complete Yes albums that came out several years ago. I don't recall where I read about them, but the reviews were all good I remember. You might try googling it to see what you can come up with.

I've had a good look in some of the deepest darkest corners of the internet, no luck yet. I'd probably have more luck calling Mr Moraz! :icon_appr

Hey there Hallway I'll be glad to show you what I play. We are in Tavistock later in the year at the Wharf. Cheers
Chris.

So Devon is the most southernly point on your gig list? Ah well thats not TOO far from here, I look forward to the gig. Until then, is it possible for you to upload a sort of video lesson or some sheet music or anything?

seYes were booked for that place in Frome near you (The Cheese & Grain isn't it), but somethingh went screwy with the venue, and I think Chris was hoping to play Mr Kyps in Poole at some point. Can't get much closer to you than that! Tavistock's quite a hike for me (and I live in Devon), but hope you do get a chance to see them. Much better than anything else I've seen.

Hey Bradders, how's it going mate?

Dave.

Hey mate,

I was referring to the time it was cancelled last year (Nov wasn't it?). If it's rearranged hopefully Chris can confirm. Would hope to make that and maybe bump into you - Tavistock's a bit of a hike coz of the poor state of the road network in Kernow. No offense to any of Trelawney's Army.

It starts off in a A to G progression. It's in 11/8 time. The second A is the one count:

AA GG GG GG
AA GG
AA AA GG GG GG GG

etc.

Play the as bar chords on the 5th and 3rd frets. To get the cadence right, think about sitting on a gallpoing horse while holding the reins. That cadence goes through most of the battle section.

Thanks, thats actually pretty helpful.

I've got the synth lead bit by ear, and I'm guessing the bass is just the root notes?
