There's a question I've been asking myself: what guitar effect is to be used in Close to the Edge? (PwE)

That effect is called "really good playing" :)

Actually, it's not that easy to get those sounds unless you use the right guitars.

I think he uses a stereo ES-335 for most of the solos, I think they call it a 345 or 355.

The chords behind the verses and the water section are done on his 1960's Coral Electric Sitar. I just saw a used one for sale on 48th St, I really wanted to get it, but it was expensive :(

I seem to remember that Steve's main effects back in the 70's were a Ring Modulator, and octave doubler, and a crybaby wah. I think he also used a big muff back then too.

Check my guitar site for a list of Steve's equipment during a recent tour.

yeah, i've seen that... thank you, Ed.

I hope Yes does a world tour in 2002 and if they come here, I'll ask Steve himself... In a few years, I'm going to get a "pro"guitar, do you know what I mean? Like Gibson, 335 or 175 or 135. I don't think I'll get the 175 because of its price. Until then, I'm gettin pedal effects.

I've seen the sitar, and I can fake it on guitar. (thnx to your tab)
