But in truth, it was a good clue Ed.

Right, do I do an easy one, or a real snorter of a toughie?

.......

.......mmmmm

..........mharharharhar

a toughie! (but softened with a clue)

Okay this album's original launch date was 1 November 1988. Although it had high ambitions, the band found it hard to get out of the sewer (where I think they belonged).

that is a cool game hope i will be able to resurect it.

lets begin with to question (easy one)

the first is an album record in 1969 but for some reason release in 1970

the second one was record in the 1930. but was release officially in 1995

Thank you elminster! Let's hope we can bring it back to life.

As for your picks, I am guessing:

1. Time and a Word - Yes.
2. Something classical? (maybe going to need more clues on this!).

Dave.

Ahhh!!! Then it must be The Beatles. And the album Let It Be?

A sidebar note:
The story behind the conception and recording of "Let It Be" is long and complex, and I will not enter into it here. There are many articles and books on the subject ... buy one !

But basically, The Beatles intended to be filmed practising, rehearsing, recording and finally performing new songs. With the project starting at the end of 1968, and this album not being released until mid-1970, the songs recorded went through many changes and also became the most bootlegged songs in history !
But, the project did give us The Beatles last ever live performance on 30th January 1969 on top of the Apple building in Saville Row which was captured on film, and some of those tracks also appear here.

The original L.P. was "finished" at the end of May 1969 and entitled "Get Back - with Let It Be and 11 other songs", this version was rejected by the Beatles, even though they even prepared the cover. This included recreating the "Please Please Me" pose on the E.M.I. balcony, which wasn't a wasted shoot, as this was eventually used on the 1973 compilation "Red" and "Blue" albums.
Seven months later, on 5th January 1970, Glyn Johns prepared a a second version of the album "Get Back", but this too was rejected and remains unreleased officially, but it can be seen and heard on the Vigotone bootleg Get Back - The Glyn Johns Final Compilation.
By March 1970 Phil Spector was brought in, and it was he who produced the final official release, "Let It Be".

Re: Album/CD release date game

Postby elminster06 » Thu Sep 06, 2007 4:27 pm

yup
the first was Let it be. (i've got a lot of book about them includind Anthology)
I will add also the fact that the beatles didn't want to finish on an album like let it be, since in the process, and we can see that on the let it be tape, some quarrelling in the group. So they decided to do another album in place and record it like good old time knowing that it was the last to be record.
Let it be was release after the band had split.

the second is Hellhound on My Tail by robert johnson. the only record he ever done. was only availlable trough bootleg for year until indigo re-release on the title Hellhound on My Tail. not long after History release the real recording "crossroad music" and right after the complete recording with every take named "the complete recording" release on columbia.(a must have).

Okay, this one was released in 1973 ( no more specifics on release date ) and featured an orchestra. In so much as successful in its release, well, it did okay but featured a tsunami of talent that far exceeded its welcome. Flying would be a fair clue if you were a bird, that is.....

Just discovered this corpse (thread) lying around - putting the machine to it to see if there's some life left in it yet. Because it's a really thought-provoking thread. And btw, I know Ratt!

Anyway, I'll try with an easy one just because it's fun to play:

A band who recorded their first album (under this name) in late 1969 but the record company kept it hidden until friday january 13th 1970?

Sorry! The "friday 13th" reference was kinda the hint. The band in question (formerly known as Earth) was Black Sabbath. Because the band changed their name the record company Vertigo (Philips) decided to release it on the nearest date with some dark significance to it. As it happened they had to wait for nearly half a year to find a friday 13th!

Oh well, never mind. We'll just try another one: This time I'm looking for a rockband who was the first to compose and orchestrate a concert for group and orchestra - and then record it live with RPO? The year was 1970 (this time too)!

P.S. Yeah, I'm the other one who had RATT albums. In my case "Out of the Cellar" and "Invasion of Your Privacy". Well, it was easier times back then... :)

Nope! Although I think (but don't quote me on this) Moody Blues were the first "rock" band to use a full orchestra when recording an album. The one I was looking for here was first to record a Live album with full orchestra! And the answer is... Deep Purple! The album (of which I also gave a hint in the question) is named "Concerto for Group and Orchestra".

Next (feel free to relieve me of this Q's-construction duty at any time..) :) Now I want to know the name of an album released on december 18th 1969. It was head-lined by one of the last century's greatest rock musician and composer, and his wife. A live album recorded in Toronto. The drummer on that record happens to be someone who's actually closer to these surroundings...

The actual name of the album escapes me, but it was Lennon and Yoko (The Plastic Ono Band) - drummer was Alan White - dang, and the name of the album is dancing around somewhere in the fog that passes for my memory... I wish I were home so I could look it up....

This album was released october 10, 1969.It´s a debut album, and features a well known bassist that would soon leave this band to form a famous power trio.

ah yes! Very good.. Jon Lord has now gone on to be quite a respected 'classical' artist, featuring in various programmes about classical music. While his erstwhile band made has of course gone all medieval in quite a different way. Hmm..

It's lucky I bought this month's "1969 edition" of Mojo magazine.

So the bassist in question is Peter Giles?
