a few days ago i helped an old friend packing up his record collection for a move out of town. he played me a radio broadcast from late 70's. it was a concert with a group called fantasia. he don't remember who was in it but it could have been roine stolt, he said. it sounded a bit like they had listened to yes and genesis, there were some nods at 'the lamb' for instance.
you flower kings fans out there, did you know about this constellation? if not there is another roine stolt band for you to go look for. i remember kaipa and they were good. i had never heard fantasia before.

From what I've heard, they weren't that good, and Ive heard some of Kaipa and thought it just sounded like cheap neo-prog.

In my opinion, Stolt was a late bloomer. A REAL late bloomer!

I beg to differ about Kaipa. Roine's old band wasn't quite as good as TFK, but they did come out with some classic albums. I just recently picked up their first two CDs (Kaipa and Nothing New Under the Sun). Their second album contains a phenomenal 21-minute long piece called "Skenet bedrar" which is a must listen (a portion of the title track from this album can be found on Alive on Planet Earth btw). Kaipa is considered to be one of the best Swedish progressive bands from the 70's.

The latest Kaipa release Notes From the Past is one of my favorite albums of the year. Sounds fairly similar to the Flower Kings albeit with more keyboards. Check out the track below.

More samples can be found here (the site seems to be down currently)

even the members of yes started out in other groups before they decided to get together and become yes. we all have to crawl before we learn to walk.

I only know the Notes… album by Kaipa. TFK are well known to me. I’m of the opinion that Back In The World Of Adventures is their best album. There’s a great diversity of sounds, gentle harmonies etc. on BITWOA. Don’t forget the fact that Roine also is a member of that Transatlantic project, which is also very great work. Sorry, I have to admit that I never heard anything about Fantasia . That’s already back from the 70s? How old is Roine? However, it is TFK which is the most popular band of this three, isn’t it?
Greetings from Germany.

I think Roine is in his 40's. I'm getting Notes From The Past and Back In The World Of Adventures very soon, so I'm really excited. I can't get enough of Roine and TFK!

Roine did a solo album called Fantasia, I can't comment on it as I've yet to hear it, from friends into Flowerkings it is supposed to have a jazzier feel.
Nice Thread by the way, I'm very much looking forward to the new release in November, do you know if it has been titled yet? I had the good fortune of meeting Roine at a Transatlantic show afew years ago,
and found him to be very likeable fellow.
