Here's the official word:

At this time we are officially announcing that Neal Morse will no longer be touring or recording with Spock's Beard. He has decided to put all his energy and focus on his spiritual path.

We love and support Neal and wish him well in whatever he decides to do. It has been a privilege sharing the stage and studio with him all these years. We will miss him both personally and professionally. We had a lot of great times together.

The Mighty Beard will go on! We must Rock! We love this music and will keep on writing, recording, and performing it for you. We will be recording a new album in the next few months with a worldwide tour to follow. We appreciate the love and support of our fans over the years and hope you will continue to support us going forward. We will continue to perform your favorite SB songs, as well as our new material, in our live shows. See you all soon on the road!

I really liked Transatlantic. There is very little new music that really catches my ear but TRANS was one of them.

Some of us in the Spock's camp are not quite so quick to dismiss them as done for. The band will continue without Neal. There is potential there, but there's no denying the up until now, Neal has been the creative force behind the band. But NDV (drummer) and Ryo Okumoto have released pretty good solo albums, and Alan has written some pretty good themes in SNOW, so I'm waiting to see how it turns out.

This is some crazy ass shit. You can be religious but it doesn't mean you have to quit your satanic prog-rock band. Don't wanna offend Jesus or anything.

I think that's real shitty that they go and make what is supposedly their magnum opus (Snow) and had a whole tour planned and everything that just got thrown at the window right at the last moment because of one guy. I mean hey, if you buy into all the religion stuff and want to follow your convictions, great, but don't fuck over the rest of your band.

Just because Neal was the driving force behind Spocks doesn't mean that he can call off the whole she-bang because of some inner religious calling. You think he would have had a bit more consideration for his bandmates, who really worked hard on the album, to at least follow through with the tour and fufill some commitments and at least give all they could to promote Snow. How he can just let his album go (when they aren't all that commercially successful anyways) and let potential income for his band just go right out the window is unfair, and is a cold and thoughtless move on his part.

Maybe with a vocal-less band we'll get to hear some more cool jamming, without the embarassing commercial tendancies that Neal often displayed. So maybe this could be good, but since he did a majority of the songwriting in Spocks Beard (a lot of which is decent) it might not be, who knows. Regardless, it will never be the same, not even to die-hard Beard fans.

He's bungled this situation so badly that I'd now place him right up near the top of my "(Prog)Rock And Roll Assholes" list right behind good old Disney Phil Collins. This is a totally inexcusable move on Mr. Morse's part, religious convictions or not. The man did make some good music, but this is a total dick move on his part, sorry.

Wow Jim, this one blind-sided me, as I type this I'm listening to the special, thank you by the way, sorry I missed it, would have loved to see the chat on this one, been working crazy hours lately.
I'm thankfull for all the great music Neal has made with Spocks Beard, Transatlantic, etc, and if this is what he has decided to do, I can only wish him well, this had to be a hard decision and I look forward to whatever future music he will make.

My vote is Nick D'Virgilio sings from now on ... though I will miss the hell out of Neal. I was just starting to get into SB too, dang it!

Faith is an amazingly complex thing, I hope he finds what he's looking for, and I hope Spocks Beard hires a smoking great replacement!

Who would they hire? They've got enough talent to pull it off with who's in the band. I would love to see NDV fronting the band but I know that doesn't set well with everyone. I just can't get enough of his voice and that started before Neal left.
