Best ballad from prog group

Me thinks:
1. C'est la vie- ELP
2. Knights in White Satin-Moody Blues

From the Begining or Lucky Man. ELP again.

Two of the finest ballads of any genre, imho.

I agree with ray; from the beginning is one of my faves and i always thought lake`s voice was the best aspect of elp. the lyrics of this song are introspective, such a departure from the sci-fi escapist fantasy.
and i must add ripples and mad man moon by genesis. these beauies from a trick of the tail album pull the heart strings. when phil collis sings these, he`s very convincing and believable. this was well before he became a joke, singing songs for cartoons.
if my typing is abit off,it`s because im dealing with a wrist injury and im typing with one hand.

Listen, carry on like that and I'll have to insist on Rolf Harris and his "Two Little Boys" again! An epic tale of friendship, love and war spanning childhood through to their coming of age in the battlefields of Europe. None of the songs mentioned can much that for the sheer emotion and grandeur of concept!

"Ballad" is a pretty general term isn't it?? It's tough to pin down, but I might go with "The Hanging Tree" by Arena... VERY cool structure, even if it nicks a fair bit of it from "Comfortably Numb" (which is another definite nominee)!
