So I'm certainly not talking about Trevor in leather pants. This is one topic that I think is an odd one for Yes fans. Can music so passionate, so intense, merely engage the mind? I have fond memories of listening to "Awaken" during a romanatic encounter; the composition and passion were linked. Yeah, it's easy to see the music in strictly Platonic terms; but Yes can also be quite sensual. (Sound Chaser is right out. but HotS (Heart of the Sunrise . . . What a great acronym!) I just don't believe that their music should be only interpreted from a spiritual or musical viewpoint; It's also very physical, and, well, sexy! (A cabin, a fireplace, starlight, and "And You and I" . . . what more could anyone ask?

Well, both, really. Seryn is obcessed and Yes is sexy. Very sexy. There have been
many times that I wished I were born about 40 years earlier. And wished that Jon was
available.

The dynamics and depth of Yes music makes it very appealing sexual. If I were on the date of
my dreams, Awaken would be playing in the background. It would be perfect. The song starts
out so softly and delicately and ascends to a very...um...romantic climax. Then it slows back
down, just like the night with a loved one should do. If you know what I mean.

I can't say that the physical appearance of Yes is Homecoming King level, but I've always had
an attraction to Jon...when he was younger. And Chris's personality is very appealing. But
that's not the point, now, is it?

B4 Ever
"The Oceans made me, but who came up with love?" "We spend all of our time goin'out of our minds, Looking back to our birth, forward to our demise" "If there were no angels, would there be no sin?" "Do not suffer through the game of chance that plays; always doors to lock away your dreams."

there's more to sex than boy meets girl.boy kisses girl. and boy and girl get sweaty while the thong song plays in the backround.I've allways held the opinion that what yes does rather than write love songs is write songs about love.
love in totality not the condensed version or the pop version of love songs. but true love and it can be love for your loved one or love for mankind or love for nature etc...
yes is better than most bands for this reason (apart from supurb playing) love is better..sex is better when its true love... a complete feeling which is what yes conveys thrue their music . not just i like the way your ass looks, but I love you totally and completly body mind soul spirit . the movements of songs like awaken or heart of the sunrise do imply a sensual energy that is similar to like what seryn was saying coming to a musical climax almost then slowing down and woking back to the frenzy again and ending in gentle touching holding soft satisfaction. on the lighter side, Yes Seryn is obsessed . but the worl would be a better place if there were more like her. i am also obsessed
so are most of you or you wouldnt waste your time collecting yes stuff listening to the albums and posting on the internet and all this stuff . what a great obsession we all have found. about 20 years now since i first heard c.t.t.e and i still play it at least once a week.when first learning to play guitar the first song i got through
was roundabout .and still play little bits of it everytime i sit down with the giutar. theres something about Yes that pervades every aspect of my life including sex.

YesMan, I'm almost at a loss of words for that inspiring post! Except, Seryn is never really
at a total loss of words, so...

Love is a very intense experience. And it plays a lot of cruel tricks on our semi-intelligent
race. One must go through so many false loves, heart breaks, and crap to finally find
themselves with his/her true love. I just went through a yucky roller coaster ride of shit with
a guy, and the first thing I turned to ease the pain was Yes. I put on my headphones and
went through all the earlier albums finding songs to match the experience. I listened to
To Be Over and just cried, but it was good for me. A catharsis and cleansing for my soul.

I like what you said about how love could be love for nature, a loved one, or mankind. I
have a deep love for nature that is often stronger than any feelings I've ever had for a guy.
Yes's music conveys that love to me, as well. One of the distinct things about Jon's lyrics
is that they can mean different things to different ppl. While Jon may have wrote a song
for his wife, to the listener the song may have a religious inspiration.

Take the Messenger. Jon wrote that song about Bob Marley, but to me it is about God.
Of course, a lot of ppl would consider Bob a god, but you get my drift.

And about sex being more than girl kissing boy. Well, I definantly agree. And I think it
usually means more when it is in marriage. But I'm not real experienced in that field. It
will probably be a while before I do.

By the way, we are all obcessed over something. For most of us here its Yes. For some,
its their soulmate. Others, it might be cars or clothing. Its just human nature to be
obcessed over things.

only one thing to add on the same theme. the songs , or what the songs meen to me has changed over the years as I stopped being a kid and started having them.i found myself relating more to the "Jon" themes of children and how precious they are. and thinking in different terms about my own parents.so the love for nature, the human race ,a loved one etc. has expanded a bit for me in that sense. like looking at the same thing from a different angle.(or something like that).

Although I've never had the 'privilege' of actually experiencing it (I know, TOO much info, sorry! ), I thought a long time ago that 'Awaken' is structured very similarly, in the dynamics of it, to sex. In fact I may have noticed it after just the first few listens to the song! LOL! Shows what kind of level I'm on...
Seriously, though, I think that's what makes that song SO brilliant!! No other song I've ever heard has quite the same spine-tingling climax! In fact, sometimes when I listen to the song, with nothing else going on, I actually find myself shaking right near the end, not just 'shivers' (which I get with many, many songs)! I wonder if the Yes boys were thinking about that 'connection' when they wrote the song...?

Yes is sexy is the most spritual and sensual way possible. "Drifting within the glow and the afterglow of the eve" Yes the sexy for people who appreciate the beauty of this music. Yes is sexy for me because it makes me feel high and happy, what could be better than that?

Hmm, now by "Yes is sexy", do you mean the band or the music or both? One could also make a case that they are intertwined.
Back when I first got into Yes, I thought Chris Squire was sexiest hunk on the planet. His, hm, relentless style of bass playing only added to the appeal. My longest-running adoration was of Jon, however, as his voice and lyrics did things to me for which I have no words. Musically, I find "Sound Chaser", "Ritual", "Close to the Edge", "And You and I" and "Heart of the Sunrise" capable of stirring some primal urges. For romance alone, I go with the obvious choice (well, for me), and that is "Turn of the Century".

Glad you resurrected this thread, hots73, and welcome! Hope to read more of you. :)

Hi, there. Actually, you may remember me at Yesfans as crazy4squire. I've been trying to change that username, but the site administrator won't seem to let me. It was then when I realized that once you enter in your chosen username, it's pretty much set in stone. Oh, well. Nothing against Mr. Squire, of course; I simply like heartofsunrise73 better.

I'll definitely checkout the above-mentioned thread later. I gotta get back to work; lunchbreak is over, *sigh* ;)

Hi, Roan's Lady:
Thank you for the kind response!
Initially, I got into their music as a kid in the early 80s. My childhood boyfriend, Matthew, got me into them and many kisses of gratitude to him for introducing me to such a great band.
I heard of them initially by hearing the "Owner of A Lonely Heart" single, and was surprised to learn from Matt that the majority of the band (except for Rabin) been performing since the 60s. Then I sampled their earlier work and from then on, I was a fan ever since.
It wasn't until a year or so ago that when I saw the earlier pictures of Squire, that boy, back in those days, he was hot! And I kind of felt sad, because when I was born in the early 70s, Yes was already an established prog rock band and looking back I felt like I missed out on that period! :( Oh, how nice it may have been to already be in your teens or twenties during that decade and experience Yes.
Well, I gotta go. Talk to you again soon!

Sorry, Roan's, I kind of trailed off on how I got intro'd to Yes. But going back to your question...yes, their music (earlier work, preferably) is sexy. One particular track that comes to mind, is "Soon." How or why, I'm not sure, but it gets me in the mood. Though I'm not really sure if sex was on Anderson's mind when he penned the lyrics. Or maybe it was. *shrugs*

Cheers! :)

OK...deja vu...strange to see this thread still up and kicking. Now, over the years have my opinions changed? Nah. My sis thinks I'm mad, but Jon is still awesome, despite the spacey way he acts, which may even be part of the appeal, and Chris has the most amazing and cute way of acting on and off stage. Alan cheers me up to when I see him contantly smiling over him drums. So, yes.. the band is sexy. I don't mean cocky rooster strut sexy either...that's for the Rolling Stones *gag* I'm also attracted to the dignity of the band - they've had some difficulties, but as Chris said on the Symphonic Yes documentary, they don't get on VH1's Behind the Music because they don't have the stories of "debauchery" (Chris' term :) ) in their past. I think that says a whole hell of a lot for how seriously they take their music and themselves. And stability, in this world...now that's sexy!

There are other songs that work like Awaken, but probably not nearly as perfectly. Like a good story, there is a plot to Awaken, which both follow the same patterns as a sexual encounter (rising action, climax, denoument). Let's face it - sex is inevitable; virgins can experience the elements of sex, and I think the sexual medium is art. :luv1:

I, too, have always been impressed by the dignity of Yes that you speak of, Serynn, and appreciated the fact that their lifestyle was atypical of the rock and roll one - at least as far as any sexual exploits went. Most members being married probably helped, imagine that actually being a deterrent in a rock band! I always wondered how the adoring women (which I'm sure were in abundance) were handled at their concerts? As you touched upon, the seriousness in which they took their work was quite apparent.
I'm curious though, in your praise of the band in its current lineup, you left out Steve and Rick. Is it that you don't think those two are sexy? I'm just wondering - and what does Chris do offstage that's "cute"? I have this vision of him telling jokes and giggling a lot, but I don't think that's what you mean. ;)

:D The way Chris talks is absolutely alluring to me; its got somethin' to do with the accent and something to do with the content. I remember at The House of Blues at Myrtle Beach, he left the stage for some time, then came back and waved his big ol' mug of beer at the audience, took a gulp, sat it on a speaker, and started stomping across the stage with his green bass again.

Steve - not sexy as I would meet him off the stage and think "wow." As a younger guy, he could be amazingly cute as he moved his mouth to the music he played on the guitar. But, no, not sexy. Guitar playing? - :hearts:

Rick - he's so damn pompous acting. If anyone deserves to act pompous, its him, but it doesn't do it for me...

But you bring up another good question; what do/did they do with the girl groupies? I can hear Jon: "You have a beautiful aura, but all of my songs are written to Janie..." :p
