Preacher and Porn Star?

Postby tardistraveler » Wed Feb 27, 2008 9:42 pm

Here's one that got called to my attention over on YesFans.

Apparently when Dr. Gene Scott passed on, his wife took over his television ministry.

http://www.pastormelissascott.com/

I saw her once on TV, and she was carrying on in the same tradition as Dr. Scott, dissecting the Bible from the original languages from which it's been translated.

What I didn't know was that she was once a porn star! She was once known as Barbi Bridges . . . Google that one and you'll get an eyeful! lol

Guess there's all kinds of "ministry" . . . ;)

most televangalism up her is kept on religious channels I love to watch them disect the rock music like the Beatles and stuff and say how satanic it is(of course some of it is) televangelist have pretty much gone off the air on standard network tv in my area
that chick is hot she could minister to me anytime
I wish they wouldve had televangelists that looked like that when I was young we had to look at jerry farwell and jimmy swaggart and the more prominant and boring guys like that
I allways thought to myself as they were selling things and telling me pretty much no matter what I do hell is right around the corner for my ass
unlees i send them money and tune in faithfully. is this what christianity is really about
I was so much older then I'm younger than that now.
Pagan Invasion is my favorite televangelism show

Yup I've seen a lot of cheesy things around here but that Bra was one of the best-it's been signed by a bunch of Packers too
if you see that woman today the entire Bra is filled with Packer signatures
another wonderfull ritual at Lambeau
every saturday after practice abunch of Green Bay kids bring their bicycles to the practice arena and wait for the Packer team members to come out and say "you wanna ride my bike" which almost all of them do!
Reggie White was famous for taking the time to ride every kids bike that asked him -he often missed practice and was fined by the team because he was out there riding bikes around for kids
I'm not kidding about Lambeau Field being a Religious event on Packer sundays-you should see the playoff games held here -there's a reason that homefield advantage is important to the team.I'll never forget the Packers loosing to the Cowboys and Reggie White screaming in Michael Irvin's face "Come to Green bay-Come to Green Bay" which they did the next Year and the Packers scored their highest winning game in history
it was called "Showdown In Titletown" 1997 the Packers went to the superboal that year. I was at ALL the Games 95-99 played in GB
and have lots of pics and great memories about them all.

Reggie repayed us by becoming a permanent resident of Wisconsin
where he Died in 2004
he Still holds many NFL reccords including all time leader in QB sacks

Jeffrae, as I have stated before, this is your thread, you created it and it's still going strong. Please do not imply that we have stolen it from you. When it was first started, we had much less bandwidth and had to start another shall we say...installment? Your title was a bit too crass, sorry to say, but the fact remains, it is your creation. We have a much greater allotment of bandwidth now and have permitted it to continue. However, per your request, it will soon be locked down and another thread started ( with the same title since you show up very seldom ) and your 'creation' will undoubtedly go on for some time. You are to be commended for coming up with the notion as it has lasted for nearly as long as two others, no easy feat. Perhaps if you participated a bit more frequently around here, you wouldn't have to toot your own horn. For the second time now, I have noted that it was your idea. When we start the next one, I will declare its origin in your name. Still, I do not expect you to 'breeze' by 3x yearly to make false allegations in that we stole it from you. So there you have it. I have been very even-handed with you in this regard.
Now, when you do participate in this thread, feel free to refer to it as your idea on occasion. Too much and you''ll come off as a bit cocky. Any further false assertions and well...I wouldn't advise it. We'll keep it at that.
In all fairness, I do congratulate you on one of the most successful threads ever created here at YEStalk.

hey Jeffrae I hope you come around more often and that you will be here in ten years when this thread is still going in some form or another- like I said the topic of religion has been rolling here in some way or another since at least 1997 -hang around visit more often and keep lively debate going my friend!
the trilogy (and trinaty) were very funny comments I got it
we have clearly lightened up on this subject but the worm can turn anytime
it's just that most of us old timers have allredy expounded or theological beliefs at least 3 times allredy and there is only so much more we can add to what we have allready said so its up to some of you newer members(or less frequent posters) to take this more seriously and make it a serious disscussion of your theological ideas.
I can assure you that while others may disagree with you they will certinly respect your opinions.

When the replies hit the 700 mark or the views 10,000, which ever comes first, the Trilogy will be initiated. We are currently very close to both.

Warning: Crucifixion Can Be Hazardous to Your Health!

Postby tardistraveler » Mon Mar 24, 2008 10:02 pm

Dang - these people take their religion SERIOUSLY!!!

From Ananova.com

Health warning against crucifixion

The Philippines government has issued an Easter public heath warning - on the dangers of crucifixion.

Thousands of worshippers in the Philippines will this week practice crucifixion and self flagellation to show their faith.

The government is encouraging them to get a tetanus shot first and be sure to use a clean whip or nails, reports the Daily Telegraph.

"We are not trying to go against the Lenten tradition here because whipping has somewhat already become some form of atonement for sins for some of us," Health Secretary Francisco Duque the 3rd said.

"Getting deep cut wounds during whippings or lashings is inevitable and being so exposed during the course of the penitence, with all the heat and dust blowing in the wind, welcomes all sorts of infections and bacteria like tetanus."

In San Fernando City 23 people, including two women, have signed up to re-enact the crucifixion at three improvised Golgothas. Four of them will use real nails.

The festival is sponsored by Coca-cola and a company called Smart Telecommunications.

Penitents are encouraged to "bring enough drinking water for the whole course of the pilgrimage to avoid dehydration, rather than buy bottled drinking water from unfamiliar sources."

And tourists and spectators are warned: "It is also better to bring self-prepared foods such as sandwiches, not only to save money, but also to avoid getting diseases such as diarrhoea, hepatitis A, and typhoid after eating food bought from street vendors."

The Bawdy Bible

Postby tardistraveler » Tue Jun 10, 2008 3:46 pm

Check this one out, for an interpretation of what the Bible is REALLY saying . . . ;)

From http://www.tennessean.com

'Bawdy' Bible shows Good Book's naughty side
By CATHY LYNN GROSSMAN • USA TODAY • June 10, 2008

Examine Bible stories top to bottom - particularly the "bottoms" - and you will find a blue vein of sexual and scatological humor not-so-hidden in the verses, say two scholars of Hebrew Scriptures and an evangelical satire writer.

Their new book, "The Uncensored Bible: The Bawdy and Naughty Bits of the Good Book," in stores this week, raises such questions as "Which "bone' was Eve made from?"

Or whether, in the Book of Judges, a king's assassin escapes through a latrine in a tale laden with euphemisms for feces.

Because the Bible addresses humanity body and soul, there's nothing sacrilegious about examining every aspect of human nature under heaven, say scholars Steven McKenzie, professor of Hebrew Bible at Rhodes College, a liberal arts college in Memphis affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA, and John Kaltner, an associate professor of religious studies at Rhodes.

Joel Kilpatrick, founder of LarkNews.com, a Christian satire site that reads like a cross between "The Onion" and an evangelical church bulletin, took their manuscript and did a humorous write-through. His earlier book for "Uncensored"'s publisher, HarperOne, was the gently mocking "A Field Guide to Evangelicals and their Habitat."

The trio delve into 23 well-known Bible tales. They start with a sassy retelling of a familiar story, then take academic hair-splitting to Olympian levels as they examine some outrageous interpretations posed by scholars from around the world, and conclude by assessing whether the new "spin" succeeds.

"I was a little surprised to discover these wacky ideas out there in the scholarly soup. But these guys have credibility, and every issue they raise is plausible," says Kilpatrick, who grew up in a conservative faith.

To play along, readers need a King James Version on hand, as some potentially naughty lines have been cleaned up in later translations.

For instance, in the KJV but not in the New International Version, King David, angry at a farmer, threatens to kill anyone who "pisseth."

Every theory discussed was initially proposed by a serious scholar, often in some arcane journal. "The Uncensored Bible"'s aim is to make the theories accessible and entertaining, Kaltner says.

Was Adam's "rib" or his side the source for Eve? Maybe not.

The original Hebrew word is "tsela," used elsewhere in the Bible to refer to a branch or tangent extending out from a body - like a certain genital bone that all male mammals have except spider monkeys and humans. So why don't men have a bone there now?

According to "Uncensored," Hebrew scholar Ziony Zevit of the American Jewish University in Los Angeles says that particular bone vanished when God redid Adam's anatomy. "Uncensored" concludes Zevit's idea "offers real possibilities."

What about Joseph's duds?

The KJV calls it a coat of many colors. "Most people therefore imagine it as a cross between a bathrobe and a kind of Xtra-Large tie-dyed shirt you might spot on an aging hippie," the authors write.

Was it really just the standard unisex look of the ancient world? Or was it, in a theory advanced by a professor at Chicago Theological Seminary, a sign that Joseph was "transgendered"?

Says Kaltner: "There are ambiguous, mysterious places in the Bible where people are trying to understand the language. Can people handle that we're dealing with matters of sexuality and that sort? Yes. The Bible reflects and responds to life in all its complexity and dimensions. Sexuality is an important part of this."

McKenzie assures they were not ridiculing Scripture but rather sharing "part of the fun of biblical study and scholarship in that there are so many kinds of interpretations."

Even so, most of those theories, including Joseph as a cross-dresser, get knocked down along the way.
