Holy Rollers and Music: Less Crap--More Filling

In Goth We Trust

Postby tardistraveler » Thu Jan 19, 2006 4:04 pm

This from Ananova.com . . .

A goth vicar is running services at his church featuring music from the likes of the Sisters of Mercy instead of hymns.

Rev Marcus Ramshaw, 34, who is a Goth himself, is behind the special services at St Edward King and Martyr Church in Cambridge.

The candlelit Goth Eucharist services feature a specially written liturgy and music from bands like Depeche Mode, Joy Division and the Sisters of Mercy.

Rev Ramshaw said: "As Goths there is a broad sense of an outlook of life that focuses on the bad things.

"The point of the service is that we all get desperate at times. We all get knocks and sometimes life seems hopeless.

"The Goth Eucharist re-establishes a link; God is still there for you even if you have been blinded."

High on Jesus?

Postby tardistraveler » Thu Jan 19, 2006 4:09 pm

I'm sure he felt it enhanced the "spiritual" experience . . . ;)

From Ananova.com

Priest's holy smokes

An Orthodox priest has been arrested by police in Bulgaria for selling cannabis joints to parishioners.

The drugs were allegedly offered by Father Kiril Papudov, said to be the most popular of the priests working around the villages of Kladenci and Borovichene.

He was caught by undercover drug squad officers who say they found 128oz of high quality cannabis in the his home.

Most churches raise money through "bake sales".... :)
This priest must just like to get his parishioners "half baked".....

OUCH!

I've heard of wearing your religion on your sleeve, but on your butt???

Wonder if there are any religious sects that require tattooing as an initiation rite? Perhaps a nice "Jesus" centered on a scroll inside a heart?

Ah, but were you baptised by sprinkling or immersion? And does it count if you're "immersed" in music instead of water??? ;)

I was "born again" in 72 myself - "immersed" in the totality of Yes music! :D

What If?

If 6 Was 9

Jimi Hendrix

Yeah, sing the song, Bro'

If the sun refuse to shine,
I don't mind, I don't mind,
If the mountains fell in the sea,
let it be, it ain't me.
Alright, 'cos I got my own world to look through,
And I ain't gonna copy you.

Now if 6 turned out to be 9,
I don't mind, I don't mind,
Alright, if all the hippies cut off all their hair,
I don't care, I don't care.
Dig, 'cos I got my own world to live through
And I ain't gonna copy you.

White collared conservative flashing down the street,

Pointing their plastic finger at me.
They're hoping soon my kind will drop and die,
But I'm gonna wave my freak flag high, high.
Wave on, wave on
Fall mountains, just don't fall on me
Go ahead on Mr. Business man, you can't dress like me.
Sing on Brother, play on drummer.

Hilarious site, Diane. I like the following quote: "THE ONLY FRIENDS YOU MAKE ONLINE ARE NERDS, LOSERS OR PERVERTS. BECAUSE EXCEPT FOR YOU AND ME, EVERYONE ONLINE IS ONE OF THESE."

Ummmm, I am definitely a nerd!

And Nolan, I'm glad the bad twisters didn't get you. Hugs.

Confession is Good for the Soul . . .

Postby tardistraveler » Thu Apr 13, 2006 3:38 pm

. . . but I thought it only worked if you STOPPED doing the sins you confessed???

From Ananova.com

Prostitutes ready to confess

Prostitutes in a Romanian town are planning to confess their sins.

Prostitutes in the town of Botosan have agreed to take a week long Easter Holiday break so they can go to church and confess.

The local prostitutes union said there were not many customers over Easter anyway, and they wanted to purify their souls ready for the coming year's labours.

Filipino Devotees Nailed to Cross

Postby wild_westie » Fri Apr 14, 2006 4:19 pm

San Pedro Cutud, Philippines ~ A 45-year-old commercial sign maker was nailed to a cross today for the 20th time. He says it's his way of thanking God after miracullously surviving a fall from a building when he was a construction worker. Organizers says he's one of at least 11 Filipinos who've been nailed to crosses today during annual Good Friday re-enactments of Jesus Christ's final hours. Religious leaders in the Philippines oppose the event. But the annual Lenten ritual has become one of the country's most-awaited seasonal attractions in a village north of Manila. An estimated 15-thousand people are on hand to watch.

I'm hooked too - 1965 was my magic year of rock and roll discovery - my dad had given me a "transistor radio" of my very own, and it was constantly turned to WKDA, the local Top 40 station . . . ;)
