Holy Rollers and Music: Less Crap--More Filling

Postby tribute1969 » Mon Jan 22, 2007 10:56 pm

The first season is already over...there were 6 episodes with the last one showing JAY performing his first NYC church service after moving there from Atlanta.........
Check the Sundance/One Punk listings each week and mark your calendar for times you most likely can view the reruns......it's not rated "R" or anything so the kids can be in the room etc but I find it's alot more "entertaining" when I watch a 30 minute show like this one without having worry about having to wait on kids....I KNOW you know what I mean....
Preacher's Daughter too....lol
You'll "enjoy" this series.....

Yeah, I'm a preacher's daughter, but he is a liberal with a capital L in every way, so I'm sure it's not the same as being Jim and Tammy's kid. I will 'enjoy' it though, I'm always interested in that stuff.

You know who I hate, Dr. Dobson, ugh, he's so awful. He even has a probloem with the movie "Happy Feet"! Says it's too environmentally friendly and also has a 'gay' agenda. He's outragous! But he has so many followers, it's scary.

Church Hosts "Pancakes and Porn" Breakfast

Postby tribute1969 » Sat Jan 27, 2007 3:36 pm

Now I do "confess" to whipping up some X-Rated shapes with pancake batter on the grill when the mood strikes me and having strawberrys and chocolate chips around really helps with the "look"...but I'm not in organized religion like the folks below!

Church Hosts 'Porn and Pancakes' Event

ONTARIO, N.Y. - It's not your typical church breakfast. An event billed as "Porn and Pancakes" is being hosted by a church in rural upstate New York.

The breakfast discussion on the pornography industry in America is planned next month at the Living Word Assembly of God Church in the town of Ontario, about ten miles east of Rochester.

A billboard advertisement near the church shows the words "Porn and Pancakes" written in syrup on a stack of flapjacks.

Organizers told a Rochester TV station that the event on February 10th will be an honest discussion about pornography and its impact on society. The discussion will be led by Triple-X Church, a group of youth ministers who travel the country talking about porn and the porn industry.

The pastor of the Wayne County church and churches from Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse have asked about hosting "Porn and Pancakes" events.

Costume Party!

Postby tardistraveler » Fri Feb 02, 2007 7:02 pm

You can dress up as Jesus at your next party!

Wonder if they have apostles costumes too - so you can go as an entourage?? Guess I'd have to go as Mary Magdalene . . .

Ananova:

Jesus kits on sale

Vatican officals are said to be disgusted after Jesus fancy dress kits went on sale in Italy.

The £8.40 party pack also contains a plastic crown of thorns and a false beard.

Vatican priest Father Vittorino Gorss said: "This is an insult and blasphemous to millions of believers."

One shopkeeper selling the kit in the build up to Lent said: "I can't see what the problem is. It's only a wig and beard."

I haven't seen Happy Feet. My in-laws are highly religious and have formed the same opinion as Dr. Dobson. I won't discuss this with them as I am a tree-huggin' liberal. They are a lovely family though.

Bleeding Jesus

Postby tardistraveler » Tue Mar 27, 2007 4:08 pm

Not sure what the gay agenda is with "Happy Feet" . . . not a gay penguin in the movie! Unless you're hearkening back to the prior meaning of "gay" . . . ;)

Here's a new one . . . a bleeding Jesus from Ananova.com . . .

Crowds flock to see 'bleeding' Jesus

Thousands of people are flocking to see images of Jesus Christ in India which are said to be bleeding.

Eric Nathaniel, a police radio operator, found red fluid trickling down a painting in his house which he believed was blood.

He said: "We lit candles and prayed all night and a little later the blood dried but it soon started trickling down from the hands and heart of another portrait in the house."

Since then, hoardes of people have visited his home in India's remote Andaman Islands to see for themselves, reports Sky News.

"This is indeed a miracle and shows that Jesus was in pain because of our sins," said John Chrysostom, a priest at the Anglican Church of Port Blair.

One portrait was temporarily moved to the local bishop's house for public viewing after police found it difficult to control swelling crowds.

Officials said red paint used in the paintings could be melting in the extreme humidity.

But islanders and priests continue to come in boats from remote parts of the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago to pray.

Chocolate Jesus!

Postby tardistraveler » Fri Mar 30, 2007 2:52 pm

Check out this story from Ananova.com

Storm over chocolate Jesus

A New York art gallery is set to exhibit a milk chocolate sculpture of Jesus Christ in the run-up to Easter.

The 6ft sculpture, entitled 'My Sweet Lord', depicts Jesus naked on the cross, reports the BBC.

The sculpture, by Canadian-born artist Cosimo Cavallaro, will be displayed from Monday at Manhattan's Lab Gallery.

Mr Cavallaro used 200lbs of chocolate to make the sculpture which, unusually, depicts Jesus without a loincloth.

Catholic League head Bill Donohue called it "one of the worst assaults on Christian sensibilities ever".

"The fact that they chose Holy Week shows this is calculated, and the timing is deliberate," Mr Donohue said.

The gallery's creative director, Matt Semler, said the gallery was considering its options in the wake of angry emails and telephone calls.

"We're obviously surprised by the overwhelming response and offence people have taken," he said. "We are certainly in the process of trying to figure out what we're going to do next."

Mr Semler said the timing of the exhibition was coincidental.
