Holy Rollers and Music: Less Crap--More Filling

Postby tardistraveler » Fri Mar 26, 2004 4:03 am

Just saw this one on Ananova.com - apparently some people found "The Passion of the Christ" quite "inspirational"!

Ananova:

Couple arrested after row over Gibson's Passion

A Georgia couple ended up behind bars after a row over Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ.

The Statesboro Herald says the pair left the cinema arguing about whether 'The Father' in the Holy Trinity was human or symbolic.

According to police reports, Melissa Evans Davidson, 34, and Sean Matthew Davidson, 33, were arrested on charges of simple battery after the argument boiled over into a physical confrontation.

Ms Davidson told the paper: "It was the dumbest thing we've ever done. We both called the law on each other. It was one of those stupid things."

Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputy Fred Cotton said Melissa Davidson suffered injuries to her arm and face and Sean Davidson ended up with an alleged scissor stab on his hand, and ripped shirt.

And here's another one!

Ananova:

Magnetic Jesus attracts complaints

A Pennsylvania clothes shop has caused outrage in the US by selling Magnetic Jesus Dress Up! novelty toys.

Buyers can dress up an image of Jesus on the cross in different outfits including a tutu, flippers and a devil's suit.

The Magnetic Jesus Dress Up! kits are being sold at Urban Outfitters in Pennsylvania which has received complaints from shoppers.

Urban Outfitters says it's not seeking to "provoke or offend" but to reflect the diversity of opinion among its customers.

The creater of the toys, who goes by the name 'Normal' Bob Smith, insists he's doing nothing wrong.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with religious satire," he told NBC10. "People have got to learn to laugh at themselves, it's part of human nature."

Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore?

Gary, does he do karate kicks? How about weapons, which ones does he come with? Does he morph into another form? Oh yeah, that was called the "resurrection", or maybe the "ascencion"? Cool!

Evangelical Jews - what next?

Seriously, how come it just seems to be Christians that want to convert people to their faith? I've never had a Hindu come to my door saying, "Have you thought about Krishna today?"

Oh they are out there, a few years back 1995, my wife and I went
to Disneyland. When we were on our way back home, a hindu man
approached me at LA-X airport. He asked me if I wanted to pay 2
dollars for the Krishna book. I figured what the heck. I took it
home and started reading it. I got a ways into it and it started
getting toooo whacked out, and the teachings didn't make sense.
I did have a spiritual thirst at that time, and I was examining
many religions trying to keep an open mind. Then I remembered that
Jehovah's Witnesses came to my door a while back and gave me some
Bible based literature, books and magazines. I disregarded them
when they gave them to me, and they collected dust on the shelves
for a while. But when I was searching with a Spiritual interest,
I started reading the books and magazines. I couldn't believe how
much sense they were making and everything said was backed by the
Bible. I did a very careful examination first, because I wanted
to have a good solid basis for my beliefs, and not be led by blind
faith. At first I said, please, anything but the witnesses, I got
passed that quickly though and became a Witness myself.
I just wanted to share a little insight about my spiritual
journey. What the hey, Jon Anderson is not afraid to express his
spiritual side.

OK, I'm riding down the interstate today, and I see this billboard proclaiming

Eat Thou Honey

After a double take, I realized this was a church ad of some sort, and got to wondering just WHAT kind of church? Does this religion worship certain parts of the female anatomy? Do worship services consist of "training sessions"?

Anyway, you can judge for yourself - there's a web site

Hi Mega, not to get too serious on the funnies guys, but I have a question for Mega.
Do the jehovah's witness's focus primarily on the second coming and end times? It seems like they do.....just curious.

Hi YesJo,
Our main focus is on the Bible. We try to tell others about the
Good News of Gods Kingdom that will soon replace human governments,
and get rid of all the wickedness we see on the earth. That is why
it is good news, there is a bright future for mankind and the earth,
and according to Bible prophecy, it will soon take place.
So I can say our main focus is to share a comforting message from
the Bible, that relief is in sight. It may not be a popular message,
but it is indeed a positive one that shouldn't be taken lightly. It
sure beats all the bad news we hear on the news everyday.
When I heard that the earth is going to be transformed into
a global paradise, I decided to embrace that hope. The music of Yes
would fit in nicely in a place like that too!

The reason I asked was because the Witness's that come to my house are always asking "Do you think there is more violence in the world than there used to be?" "Are you worried for your family and for the end of the world?" and things like that. The literature is always about the end of the world. So, I was curious about your take on that.

Also, do you have alot of scheduled times where you go door to door? I know of a woman who spends an extrordinary amount of time knocking on doors. Is it a requirement of all of the church members?
