As to the navigation here - I don't think it's changed in some time? You can still find all the off-topic stuff here in Other Skylines . . . Linda's always posting something about new bands and new CD's in Alternate Tunes . . . there's a group of us having fun with word associations. . . . I think there's been a few reviews of the Yes tour posted as well in Yestalk.

I'm sure Ed is doing what he needs to to keep this place running - and I'm thankful he does! :)

I've always thought of this as my "vacation home" - that laid-back place where I can come and relax with friends, and just have some fun . . .

Well I did go through the yestalk vaults Which ed has converted some of the things from like 97-98 through today and I did see so many peoples posts that I dearly loved and felt as if they were family to me
I was reminded of how things can be when clicking properly
in all the places I post these days nothing yet has been as fulfiling as time I've speant here.
you may remember that my ban was just a few days after Ed upgraded the site so I think thats potentially a year or more now

I do know where some of those folks went or we keep in contact via e-mail or myspace or something some other site etc
but

Sure added a lot to the place

Nothing against those that hung around as I feel the same way about many of them too.

Hi Chris. Good to see you. We have indeed lost quite a few people that are sorely missed. Yes, there was a lot of bad blood that reached ridiculous proportions and became a turn-off for many people. But time is a great healer, and you are right, there has been so much GOOD commradarie over the years. One big problem is the dormancy of Yes, or at any rate a version of Yes that most people can buy into. The band is, after all, the reason for the site and the one common denominator we all share. These days I follow Porcupine Tree much more closely, and have even ventured to that other Yes site since PT released and starting touring The Incident, since that site has a place devoted to PT. I do post about PT and other bands and CDs in alternate tunes, but there just aren't a lot of people who respond. However, we do have ongoing games going on, and some interesting digressions from those. For me, this site, although much abandoned, is still the village I call home. Hope to see more of you.

Thanks for the update, Lizard . . . hope all goes well with your mom . . . :)

ATM it's just been pretty routine around here . . . lots to do at work and home.

We're driving up to Louisville tomorrow to see Sonata Arctica in concert - J.J. and friend Steve are fans, so I told them I'd take them. I've been digging their new album "Days of Grays", and I'm sure they'll play lots of that at the show.

Yeah - I thought of you, Lizard - knew you're a Sonata fan . . .

The show was excellent! I'm sure they'll be touring some more, so maybe they'll be in your neck of the woods soon . . . :)

Glad to hear your mother is better, and that you'll have help from the social worker dealing with her condition. Sounds like you're doing all you can . . .

ATM -

I'm reveling in being back at work - due to various reasons, mostly pertaining to my STILL pending (3 1/2 years now - SHEESH) divorce, I was laid off for 3 weeks. My manager and my lead sysadmin jumped through a lot of hoops for me and helped get the issues cleared up, so now I'm back at work and loving it. It SUCKS looking for a job and not knowing when the next paycheck is going to come in.

Looks like the divorce is going to FINALLY be over with by the end of November - and it's about time. I've really had enough. Gonna take a lot of the "love and light" of Yes music to help me get over the bitterness that has been beating on me, especially over the last year and a half. However, the last several years HAS served to reaffirm that I've made the right decision, so that's a positive slant to everything...

The move back to Virginia in October 2008 has turned out to be not without it's challenges - gov't funding for the last project I was on was pulled after 7 months and I had to take ANOTHER position, and then 4 months after that I was laid off because of the above - but it's been DEFINITELY worth it. I've been able to spend a LOT of time with my 2 younger boys (one just turned 18 this month and the youngest turned 7 this past June); my oldest boy (he's 22) moved back to the Tidewater area and in with me last March, got a job and actually supports himself - we're "roommates" more than anything else - and we spend a lot of time together; and over the past year or so, a romantic relationship has grown between myself and a lady that I'd known for a few years just as friends. So, life is moving forward, and in a REALLY good direction.

My oldest son (some of you "old timers" here may remember him by the name of "Freebird" on this site - he frequented here, oh, probably 8 or so years ago) and I are going to the Virginia Symphony on Saturday night - Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", a couple of other pieces that I don't remember right now, and closing with Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite". His suggestion and invitation - he called me on Tuesday and asked me if I'd like to join him for it. Oh, HELL yeah, I would. My girlfriend already had plans to spend that entire day and evening with her oldest (her daughter) for a "lady's day" at Busch Gardens, so I had no plans... now I do and I'm looking forward to it in a BIG way.

So, life is good, if not without it's challenges and speed bumps.

Dean, glad there's some good going on in life, and hopefully the stresses will be behind you soon . . . :)

Pulling a late night here at work - leaving in about an hour to go pick up my son at school - he has a night class on Tuesdays/Thursdays.

Thank you, Diane - yes, there is a lot of good, and I'm grateful for it.

Re: late nights at work - I pull a LOT of those. One good thing about my job - because it's 200 miles away from where I live (I live in Chesapeake, VA and my job is up near Washington DC), they let me work four 10 hour days vice five 8 hour days. So, I leave my house early Monday mornings (around 5 AM, usually) to drive the 200 miles to work; stay in a hotel Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday nights; leave work on Thursday and drive the 200 miles back to Chesapeake. My weekends are Friday, Sat, Sun. A lot of time on the road and a lot of miles on my car, but it's a really decent schedule. And, because of how expensive it is to live up here, this arrangement is actually less expensive than relocating up here. And, because there's really nothing waiting for me each night that I'm here except a hotel room, it doesn't bother me to turn those 10 hour days into 12 hour days occasionally (sometimes 14 hour days, although that's rare). And, I get 3 day weekends EVERY weekend to take care of what's important in life - spending time with my sons, spending time with my lady friend, and spending time with my friends. It seems to be a rather equitable situation for me in pretty much all respects.

Gonna need to pick up a new truck soon, though - I've now got 215,000 miles on my Ranger and it's starting to show the signs of it. I'm looking at Toyota Tacomas, Ford Rangers and Chevy S-10s. My 18 year old is waiting somewhat impatiently for it to happen, because I told him when I get a new truck I'll give him my current Ranger. Only thing is, he'll have to pay for his own insurance, his own gas and his own maintenance... I refuse to give the truck to him otherwise.

Yeah - my schedule here at work has been pretty haphazard too . . . my son has a lot of post-surgery medical appointments, and a friend who doesn't drive is in physical therapy, so I'm having to work weird hours around all those appointments. It's a struggle sometimes.

At work at the moment - will have to leave in a while to go pick up J.J. from school and take him home . . . he's got physical therapy tomorrow which I think his dad will take him to, but we're changing the schedule, I think, which means I'll probably have to take him more.

Dang, where IS everyone out here!!!

C'mon guys - post and let us know where you are!

ATM things have shifted a bit in life since I last posted. My son has decided to move to the dorm - seems HE was tired of the need for all the rides, and at 18, I think he's just wanting a bit more freedom and less "checking in" with Mom . . . lol

So, yesterday was a day off for me - I took him to PT, and then we got his stuff together and he checked in with student housing, got his key, and moved in.

I'll still be taking him to PT twice a week, but he'll now be able to walk to and from class, which is a plus. And the bus comes right by the school if he wants to go somewhere, until he gets a car.

Dean - hope the divorce came through . . .

Lizard - how's your mom?

ATM - I'm at work, and it's been a busy day so far - I have some personnel issues to deal with today . . . at least I'm enjoying some good music while I do those . . .

I'm sitting here listening to IZZ's Sliver Of The Sun. I just got done eating a chili omellette, and I'm debating what I should do with my afternoon. I know what I SHOULD do, and I know what I WANT to do, and they're not really the same thing. Oh well.

I know that feeling - I'm in the same place right now.

I'm at work, and even here there's a million things I'd rather be doing than what I HAVE to do this afternoon - we're working through a disciplinary action regarding one of my employees - it's a pain . . .

Hello, all

Been a few weeks since I've signed on to the site - I've had a LOT going on.

Diane, yes, the divorce HAS finally become legal and binding - as of Nov 18th, I'm officially and legally single. 4 years pending... finally free... what a load off my shoulders and mind! Now my lady and I can officially pursue our relationship, which is going VERY well.

Work is going well... went through an ITIL class (IT systems management from the initial design phase, through transition and deployment, operation and support, continued service improvement) and got my ITIL V3 Foundation certification. I'm looking forward to taking one or two of the offered intermediate classes as well sometime after the first of the year.

Kids are doing well... Derek (my 7 year old) helped me pick out my Christmas tree this year and set it up. Going to decorate it with he and my next oldest, Dustin, this weekend.

Christmas is coming... I'm glad it's here, I'll enjoy it now that I don't have to deal with the chaos and hustle / bustle of the season, and it'll be over with very shortly after the New Year. Then, it's on to another year, another season, a new era for me. YEE HAA. I'm looking forward to the rest of my life. Life is a GOOD thing.

I hope everyone is doing well.....

ATM I'm trying to get some information regarding a new request for programming that's come in - the guy I'm trying to assign it to seems to have no clue what a batch update is and it's frustrating - we don't have anyone else here with much DB2 experience . . . sigh . . .

I AM really glad you've stopped by - I've missed the antics of the peacocks, and your food updates . . . ;)

Please know that we're here for you if you need a diversion right now - it's tough losing parents - both of mine passed 4 months apart in 2001/2 - the fan sites provided a much-needed respite for me from grief and legal matters.

ATM - we just had a Christmas food orgy here at work - everyone brought stuff and we set up a buffet, which is still going on! Lots of turkey/ham/rolls, plus dressing and various casseroles, lots of cheese/cracker/dip/chip thingys, and a table with about 2 dozen different desserts!

I'm stuffed to the gills . . . lol

I actually made some resolutions last year that I stuck to, and I'm trying to expand on those this year . . .

Food orgies over after the holidays, and I'm back to pretty reasonable eating . . .

Back at work after taking 11 days off, which was GREAT! Got to go to bed/get up WHEN I wanted to, and not when the alarm went off or some deadline loomed - afternoon naps were fun too . . . got my stereo hooked back up - used to be hooked in with the TV/cable system, but my son hooked up games and everything and it was just too much. I found a new location for everything AWAY from the TV. Everything's working except the turntable, unfortunately . . . there's a horrible buzz in the speakers when I plug it up . . . :(

Watched some movies and decent TV, spent some fun time with my son . . . holiday dinners with friends/family . . . a good time.

Wonder why they targeted US?? GG and Trib especially??

BTW-So sorry about your dad...I am an orphan too...but I do see the lives of both my parents in things I do each day so they are always with you in that respect....Sometimes I swear I'm turning into my dad...it's so weird to catch yourself being in his shoes...

Was just taking a little "break" for all things YES due to my disgust with the way the "Jon illness/replacement" thing was handled by all...It will hard to go see them in any grouping at this point.....Glad I have overall great memories and all the cd/dvds etc too.....Present and Future doesn't look that great!

Of course you were missed out here! Always good to see your posts . . . :)

We've all been getting those weird spam PM's . . . Ed or N2 will have to take care of them, and they haven't been around lately.

ATM I'm at work after the latest "snow" scare - every year it seems there's supposedly some big snow coming, that they talk about for days and get everyone worked up - big runs on the grocery stores because people think they're going to be socked in for the rest of their lives or something . . .

Anyway, the "big" snow was supposed to hit around 4 this morning, and amounted to a smattering of flakes on my car . . . lol . . . streets are fine, no ice, no snow . . .

Actually, if it's going to be this cold, I wouldn't MIND some snow - at least it would be pretty . . .

Mowed the lawn at my deceased dad's house, the ol' homestead since '64, bought new for $60K back then , where I lay on my bed yesteryear looking up at the constellations and sometimes a sliver of moon light on the ocean miles below thru my window, listening to Yessongs, where fog in the streetlights provided backdrop of Supper's Ready...., will be sold by next Fall...

The Greenglade family shall end its long reign in these here leafy suburbs... and I must reproduce and continue the Greenglade family line, as I have only sisters....

Will hire painters and maybe remodellers to stage the house for the realtors ..........

No more Christmas dinners, holidays, Easter hunts on the lawn, or dinner parties, no more Waltons-like "Night, brother Greenglade", "Night sister Greenglade"....

Most likely the house will eventually be totally remodelled by the new owners someday...these So Cal stucco tract homes are being gussied up all over the neighborhood....

Time passes on ....

Greenglade, you could do what I did, and actually move INTO the old homestead . . . my family is making some NEW memories there . . . :)

Dealing with estates is hard stuff . . .

ATM - at work, going to leave early and take J.J. to physical therapy this afternoon - he's starting fresh with a new therapist, so wish him luck!

AND you could turn it into YESTALK COMMUNE /WEST!!..
Tardis is already working on turning her homestead into being
YESTALK COMMUNE/EAST!!
We've actually already had two Yesfan "Gatherings" at her house....
We're into negosiations with yesireebob to get her to turn her Phoenix
desert farm into a YESTALK DESERT SPA/REHAB for those from the WEST or EAST COMMUNES to come to when needed...
