On those counts, you are no doubt right, Guild! However, think on it for a sec and the sudden realization that a classic YES number is going to be put to a dance tune done by Shiteney is almost too much to fathom much less hear. Jesus Christ!!!!! Holy Shit!!! I`m sorry; Britney Shits`s fans will not look for the original version. They will think it`s indigenous to a woman who thinks dressing like a prostitute is musical talent.
And i thought Tiffany covering `I saw him standing there' was sacriligous. Nothing is sacred anymore.
For those of you who criticized Jon Flanagan for his bashing of Britney Shits should be lauding the man a hero. He was dead on about `Shits'. Now this whore will bastardize our music that we love so much. This is a disgrace and a slap in the face to Yes fans everywhere. Our music is being trivialized.
Jon, your input is needed on this fast!!!!!

What a TERRIFIC piece of.....ummm.....news!!! Think of it this way: She releases horrible recordings that fall on deaf ears and her career goes straight into the dumper. What's left for her? A PLAYBOY LAYOUT! In a word, !!!
Hell, while she's at it, why not cover "Close To The Edge" ???

I wonder if the rights have expired or been bought up . . . they are after all thirty years old now.

And let's not get all worked up over this, it's just someone else covering a song, nothing new under the Sun and all that. I'd expect a more mature reaction than some of this on Spearstalk or whatever it's called.

I'm not sure really but I have seen things happen to various rights, including I think the Beatles not so long ago. I'm no expert but it may be that sometimes rights were held by record companies for a fixed period or it might be that the rights to that song were sold on. I can remember talking to Rick after one of his shows and he said that he couldn't even keep track of which parts of his stuff he still had the rights to and which he didn't.

Even I would not like to think of someone else getting a number one record with a Yes song and our guys get nothing out of it. That said, when we did the Fragile CD there were some interesting names that came back from the MCPS, if I can ever find them again I'll have to see exactly who's on there for All Good People.

And the thought of Jon trying to keep up with Ms Spears on stage is amusing. I suppose he could always give her some singing lessons though!

Simon, no doubt you are right when you say it`s nothing to get worked up about. It sure isn`t. I`m going against my own expression`that iit`s only music,it`s nothing to get upset about'. But I do enjoy taking a swipe at someone who thinks she is enormously talented, but her greatest asset is her chest. There is no ability elsewhere.
I guess like you said, it would be a shame if her cover was a big hit and no credit was given to Yes. Perhaps if it is a major hit, the royalty checks would be nice for them, but it would be sad to hear teens say `Did you hear that cool new song by Britney Spears????'

Well, there would be a huge end delicious irony in that. Imagine these Brittany fans seeing a picture Yes and their reaction would be very predictable and some way less than positive. Imagine then being able to tell them who wrote this cool new song . . .

In a way things would have come full circle and it would be a fairly damning indictment of the pop industry. If Yes re-released the song now it would get nowhere in the charts, as the latest Brittany single it will be a hit. The ultimate confirmation that pop the music is like pop the drink (soda to my US friends) compared to the fine vintage wine that is seventies Yes.

And I wonder if you guys underestimate Brittany in one respect. My guess is that she probably has a fairly accurate picture about her relative talents but with all those millions coming in is unlikely to care. Heavens if someone paid me millions to see my chest I'd retire tomorrow.

Sorry, one final point. I too think that this music is something to be worshipped but as most good religions say, we should be tolerant of the non-believers. As Rush would have it

If these are international rules, calm down... down here, the rights expire only after 70 years. LET THE RULES BE INTERNATIONAL, PLEASE!!!

For me Brittany has incredible talent for someone so young. Maybe during her six month break, she's grown up a bit, and heard some music she likes and is inspired by. This could be the re-inventing she has to do in order to evolve into a new era of not-so-completely-sexpot.

The idea of Britney Spears covering "All Good People" turns my stomach.
However, calling her a whore and a bitch is perhaps pushing it.
Her image (and perhaps what is underneath her image) is not entirely self-made. She is an unfortunate product of years of corporate greed and a corrupt record industry. What's the saddest is that she doesn't seem to care about that. But if you don't like Britney, hell, just don't listen.

Curious, what are anyone's thoughts on Donna Summer's cover of "State of Independence"?

Everyone can breath a sigh of relief...it was a rumor that originated from another Yes/proggressive rock chat board; I'm not going to waste my time elaborating on this porn whore masquarading as a viable musical talent..you all know how I feel about this woman

jon, why oh why all this hate? can't we all just get along?
it's not britney, it's the business. she got her chance to make it big and she went for it. can't really blame her. so what if she doesn't have any talent? she sells albums. mcdonald's burgers taste like crap but they sell...
teen idols have always been around. remember millie? my boy lollipop!
bay city rollers? the list is endless and there will always be a market for this kind of musical phenomenon. it's products who sells like in any other business. but they're usually crappy like mcdonald's. today's kids will grow up and get tired of britney spears. their own kids will have their own britney spears they'll worship. same product, only in a new package. and the circle will complete another round...

But its just soo much fun bashing these teenie bopper no talent wanna be rockers! You know in 10 / 20 years they will be on "where are they now."
Thank God there are no small children in my house so I never have to hear this crappy so called music: shitney, or any of these boy bands, the list just goes on and on.

I think what pisses me off is you have real artists, like YES, who write their own music, play their own instruments, make Great music and still don't get all the recognition they deserve.

But don't worry I think bratneys 15 minutes are just about up and next summer it will be another music industry whore being shoved down the publics throat.

Hmmm, I'm willing to bet that she'll be a B-list celeb alright but still with more money than you or I will ever see. In that there is no justice!

I should be given millions because I'm genuinely talented! I haven't figured out what that talent is yet but when I do I'll be unstoppable!

Finally someone to give "people" the treatment it deserves.

But lets look ahead. This means that eventually the boys will probably end up sharing the stage with her on some convoluted medley in a emtyV awards show. Jon could be standing there with his arms outstretched singing to the heavens, and Britney could accidently backup into causing them to close and his hands to come to rest on her fine protruberances. (not that I've given any thought to that) Now, that wouldn't suck.

Where's Igor the manhandler when we really need him???

I am appalled to read the hate fear and misogyny regarding the rumour true or false that Miss Spears plans on covering Seen All Good People. In fact as I write the title of the song I am struck by the extreme irony that the allegedly more enlightend fans of one of the most peaceful, beautiful, kind, loving, forgiving and experimental musical groups in music history would be so violently threatend by by such a simple thing.(turn your heads each day, I'm on my way!) I am not a Brittany fan. BUt covering any song is a sincere form of flattery. Doesn't she have the right to enjoy Yes's music? Wouldn't you want Yes music to reach a wider audience? Maybe then they could afford all those fancy lights people are asking for in the other appalling thread I'm going to have to reply to (ericbliss). Any performer is in a way a whore or even a pimp, trading their emotions,,talents, expressions for an audiences titallation and cash. Its called survival. As far as Brittany's moral character and cultural influence-whatever. She isnt the 1st or the last, to quote, "you better free your mind instead" The thing that really sent me throught the roof was the Yes fan who joking or not said he would be glad to shoot her dead.(yesfan37) Yikes I hope I'm never at the same show as you in fact I'd rather go to a Brittany show then be seated next to you at Yes. That is saying a lot because Yes is my all time favorite band (not counting the Dead 'cause their just a whole category unto themselves.) If somehow your afraid that her rendition will somehow 'cheapen' yes remember this is the band whose biggest hits ever were with their worse two albums BG and 90125. I don't think any less of Led Zeppelin or the Beatles music portfolios and both of them are selling Caddys and Nikes on TV. In short get over yourselves and free your little minds from fear and hate. "Forgiving is what you are, forgiving is all you see" Thanks to all the Bards and babes for performing for these fickle misfits. The Part We Offer Is Our Only Freedom!!
