This is an interesting thread - how some people hate what others like, and vice versa.

Guess there's really no "stinky" Yes song, just varying opinions about the worth of each one.

Several have been mentioned here that I really like - a LOT - including most of the "sentimental" ones! Hey, I'm a romantic at heart - can be anyway!

And opinions change over time too. Although I think Circus of Heaven would have been better served on a Jon solo album, I can tolerate it now as a Yes tune. I remember when I first heard it, it was like "What were they thinking?" And I thought Don't Kill the Whale was a little trite at the time, until I heard it live on the 2002 tour - absolutely blew me away! Now it's one of my favorites!

So, I can't think of ANY Yes tune that I would just qualify as "stinky".

I find the Cha Cha Cha Huuummmmm section a bit cringeworthy. I just think the track loses its way a bit after Steve's flamenco a la electric solo. But overall, one of my fav tracks on one of my fav albums.

I prefer Anderson's oblique pseudo-mystical babbling that's all! The whole Janeeee period is a bit too cheesey (that word again), but having said that "If Only You new" does have a sentimental place in my heart. I just wish it was a different band that recorded it.

Aways find it surprsing t see what people's tastes are- For my 2 cents worth, I'd have to agree with
circus of heaven
- arriving ufo-- terrible lyrics but not too bad musically-
virtually everything on OYE, ecept new state of mind,
City of Love, I cant belive Trevor thinks that shock to the System was supposed to be a rip off of city of love-

walls- should have left it for Rodger Hodgson

I liked the rest of talk,

and I still say Big generator is the best think yes-west did!!

My picks: Dangerous, Almost Like Love (those horns make me want to scream), Circus of Heaven (although I like his son's part at the end), Be The One.

I hated Man in the Moon on first listen, but it grew on me and now I really like it. Actually the whole OYE album had that affect on me! I also like Arriving UFO, although I didn't used to.

It's all a matter of taste, mostly!

Man in the Moon? And the whole Open Your Eyes album? How can you be serious. It's not the greatest, but "Open Your Eyes" (very much like early, pre-Howe yes), "New State of Mind" and CERTAINLY "Man in the Moon" are the 3 best songs on that CD, and well worth having.

Most of the bad stuff is Rabinesque (and I actually like most of 90125 as well as Talk). But the worst are:

-Love Will Find a Way (most embarrassing Yes lyrics, thank you Trevor)
-Rythym of Love
-Miracle of Life
-Saving My Heart For You
-Walls

As for the Ladder, there is some great stuff on that. Homeworld is 100% classic Yes. The first 5 songs and #11 - Nine Voices - are very solid. The rest of the album is not so great... with "If Only You Knew" being just sad.

PS: i don't know why everyone hates Tormato, i think that is a great album.

Hasn't anyone heard "Last Train?"

From In A Word?

Uhhhh . . .

It makes the early 70's Coke comercial they did a masterpiece in comparison! :P

I'm still trying to find about this Coke commercial thing. When was this done? I never knew they did a commecial for Coke. Was it a TV commercial or a radio commercial? Anyways, for me, the worst, the cheesiest, crappiest song for Yes wasn't entirely performed by Yes. It was performed by Jon, Jimmy Haun, whichever keyboardist(s), drummer(s), and Tony Levin. The song is "Dangerous," from Union, or what I call the "Session Players Union" album. It has CHEESE written all over it. It sounds like an outtake from Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation album!!!!!!!

Personally, I can hardly listen to Gates of Delirium. It's just over-indulgent, and sections of it appear to just be noise. The only good bit is right at the end, where Soon comes in.

Oh, come now, Proffet! "Last Train" from the In A Word box set? That's not even a serious SONG, just Jon goofing around. Can't really call that a serious attempt, lol... :p Well, I love it when the guys let their hair down and just flop around being silly. Hehehe...

All this is so much opinion, though- there is no "worst" for sure. I like about all the songs mentioned in this thread... Actually, some of my classic favourites are on the cutting board here, lol. There's no real YESsongs I'd say were bad- just ones I listen to more than others. ;)
