NP: Mahavishnu Orchestra - Between Nothingness And Eternity

This band is best heard live. My God, can John McLauglin shred!!!! He could beat any speed meatl guitarist's playing any day. He's the original speed-metal guitarist, as far as I'm concerned.

Great one. If you like hearing Johnnie Mac shred, try the first Shakti album. McLaughlin is even more impressive on acoustic. Of course, the athleticism is only part of it. There's real musical intelligence behind all those notes.

Also, try The Lost Trident Sessions from Mahavishnu, if you haven't already. It features studio takes of Dream, Sister Andrea, and Trilogy. Jan Hammer was wonderful in those days!

Intersting. I'll have to pick that one up then. I already have Inner Mounting Flame, Birds Of Fire, BNAE, The Lost Trident Sessions, and Visions of The Emerald Beyond and they are all magnificent. The strange thing is after the original group broke there was a new MO that actually featured vocals, which wasn't too bad, but I would have preferred just intsrumentals.

He's really starting to become my all-time favorite guitarist. Just amazing.

No offense to Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin, and Alex Lifeson, my other favorite guitarists.

Jimi Hendrix at Royal Albert Hall 2/24/69
"Sunshine of Your Love"...

Cream's last concert was the "Farewell Concert" also
at Royal Albert Hall in '69 and we all know who the
"opening" act was....YES

Hearing rumors that CREAM is scheduled to do a series
of "reunion" concerts at Royal Albert Hall this May.....

Wonder if YES would consider opening for them again....

WHAT a concert that would be.........

NP: Jean-Luc Ponty - Cosmic Messenger
re: Jon Anderson - "Animation"

topo, I have it on CD-R and I believe it's taken from a direct download that even features the bonus track ("Spider") from the "Animation" sessions. The whole thing sounds out of this world, too! :D

BTW, Ponty's "Cosmic Messenger" is the best thing he ever committed to recorded tape!! Definitely a peak moment for him ......

np: Lisa Marie Presley - "To Whom It May Concern"

Say what you want about the Presley's, but this damned album RAWKS!!!!!!!!!

I love what she tells Wacko-Jacko in the album's last song (which is dedicated to him) --

"The things you do just blow my fuckin' mind!"

Kinda sums it all up, dunnit?

Awesome album though! Go get this one NOW!!!!! :D

np: [:yes] - "The Ladder"

I was surprised at just how strong this album was the very first time I heard it - and it's still just as good the 50th (or so) time around!

"I have seen the passion that's in the hope that everyone will find into the secret of the home of your heart!"

[:yes] indeed!! :D

np: Rush - "Retrospective II ... 1981-1987"

I've always preferred Rush-songs where Geddy's not screaming the lyrics out at an octave to where only hyenas and other canines can hear him, you know? I know many purists out there that would disagree with me on this, but bear in mind that this is only one man's opinion ... plain and simple as it is.

"The Body Electric" jamming now!! :D

Not only that album, but also Enigmatic Ocean as well. Splendid violin/keyboard playing by Ponty, awesome drumming by Steve Smith (of Journey fame), and some very tasteful guitar playing by Allan Holdsworth (UK, Tony Williams Lifetime, Gong, Soft Machine, Bruford) and Daryl Steurmer (former touring guitarist/bassist for Genesis after Steve Hackett left).
