Progressive Rock Defined (Funny Stuff!)

Postby tardistraveler » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:13 pm

RL posted this one on another site, and I thought I'd share it here too.

This is the FUNNIEST darned thing I've ever read! Well, close to it, anyway! It's so funny that, when I was reading it here at work and cracking up, my co-worker Bev asked what I was laughing about (she is NOT prog-knowledgeable), and I sent her the link, and SHE started cracking up!

Enjoy!

Excellent find, thanks for sharing.

I especially like the caption for Yes: "Progressive rock band, Yes, pictured being better musicians than you." Absolutely spot on!!

LOVE these bits!

"It is the only rock genre in which the term "flute solo" has any meaning"

"If you feel like adding a 30-second audio clip of some farm animals orgasming in the middle of your song, that's a-ok by progressive standards. Hell, it's even encouraged."

"In other cases, the artists have just thrown up their hands and said, 'f*ck it. We're going to yodel for a few minutes.' "

And especially this one . . . elves and sh!t . . . LOL

"The concept album is a staple of progressive rock. Examples range from Pink Floyd's Animals (about the evils of capitalism) to Rush's 2112 (about the virtues of capitalism), and Uriah Heep's Demons and Wizards (elves and sh!t)."

That is some funny shit right there. I love the picture of Yes (pictured being better musicians than you). LOL

The pants part was also funny. The whole damn thing was funny. It seems obvious that some of the people at Cracked are prog fans.

I'd love to finish this post, but fuck it. I'm gonna yodel for a few minutes!

Classic! :jestera:

The bums to "dongs" graph in order of fame was rather clever too. GFTO one side, and Love Beach the other :D

And of course the cow...

Glad everyone's been enjoying this one . . . I thought of this while watching VH1's "100 Top Hard Rock Songs" or some such, and they made a comment about Ian Anderson making the flute cool in rock . . .

Flute solos rock! :D
