Re: Yessong of the Week - And You and I

There's a lot here, and my initial reaction to this song it that it speaks on two levels - one is earthly love, and the completion we can find in someone else - the other is the quest for the spiritual, and the completion we also find when knowing the ultimate. nicely put Diane this is such an exce...

Re: Most Meaningful Lyrics

I've read a very in-depth essay regarding this song. 'Yes, Awaken, and the progressive rock style' it was called. Though unfortunately it seems to be no longer veiwable on the website ( http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=81721 ) Anyway, the article mentioned Aw...

Re: Album/CD release date game

Could this be Revolver, by the Fabs? released August 1966.. & followed by Sgt Pepper, of course.. In some ways, I find this a more innovative & satisying album than Pepper, featuring - among other things - Harrison's first foray on the Sitar.. Pepper seems to pick up some of the same concepts & just...

D'you know what? I love this song; I've loved it for years & although I've always thought it was about the specialness of close relationships ( but is it?) I haven't got a clue what the lyrics are about!!!

Re: Most Obscure Lyrics

there's usually an essence of sense in there, as well as poetic image evoking sound poems. Those are the lyrics I like best of Jon's. when he tries to be too literal ('that that is' for eg.,) I like it less. that said our recent analysis of that song made me appreciate it more.. So lets do some more!!

Re: Most Meaningful Lyrics

well, I could be well of the mark here, but I've always thought (in a not very deep way, I'll admit) 'awaken' was something to do with the awakening spiritual consciousness of man (boy that sounds pretentious, just me writing it!) and with the act of creation & maybe the 'master' (of Images, of Ligh...

Re: At This Moment Part II

My doggie Rukia died Tuesday night . . . she had gotten loose outside, and apparently hit by a car on her way home - she died in the driveway next to my car . . . it's been a sad week for me and J.J. . . :( I'm so sorry to hear that - pets can bring great joy, but they also can bring real heartache...

Well done Guild, absolutely spot on! No April Fools post that!

Sorry for the delay in picking this up - I've been away for work in Rome, with very limited internet access in the hotel where I was staying!

So it's over to you sir for the next!

getting ready for a business trip to Roma - training some folks till this Friday. A change of scene, but it'll be car->airport->plane->taxi->hotel->taxi->plane->airport-> car.. which gets to be a bit of a drag.. who am I to complain today? eyebrows, no idea - keep the sweat out of your eyes, maybe??

Re: TWINS? Are There Any 2 YES albums Alike?

I would maybe agree with the original poster that 90125 & Big Gen are closely related, & as you say, Hallway, CTTE & Relayer are structurally similar. Maybe Tormato was meant to be the Twin of GFTO (with Silent Wings being the killer 'Awaken' type song). There are some 'softer' songs on GFTO which s...

I do think it's beginning to.. There are digital channels, publications, & you here more about 'prog' than you used to even a year/18m ago - it's no longer the genre that dare not speak it's name!

Re: YES - Union

there was a budget price edition '(re)-union' which left out a three or so tracks, but personally I'm happy to have it all & pick'n'mix what I want when I want it! But no, it's not the classic '70s sound - hard to imagine how they could keep producing music like that without being charged with being...

there's a couple of other clips on the site too, which show Jon talking about his first musical exploits in skiffle, and how the relationship came about with Roger Dean. scroll thro towards the end.. they're up there as 'bonus' pieces (you'll also find an iv with Ray Manzerak of the Doors which is q...

Re: Album/CD release date game

let me make it easy for you - the artist who recorded this has been consistently popular down the years, but this was one of his least 'accessible' albums. That said, it's just been re-recorded in a way which the artist says allows him to complete the vision of what he'd always intended but couldnt ...

nice post/film - some people think it was actually AFTER his illness (September-ish). If that's so, it would be great, but I'm not sure he was in that great a shape then..

So did he get a 'free' Lexus for doing this?! How does that fit with the values..

hmm, yes, gobbling this up! already listened to a few tracks (largely from the 2001 live album it seems) I can see what JY means about it needing a 'live' drummer. a machine just wouldnt work!

well you should tell him (as if he doesnt know) that 'prog' is having a bit of a resurgence at the moment, so their re-union in the early 2000's was a little ahead of the curve! Tell him they have some fans in the UK who'd love to hear them again - I can suggest a few venues (there's a good one in F...

its sort of two (maybe three) albums in one.. you've got the obviously ABWH tracks that never made it onto ABWH2 (cos there wasnt one) & the obviously YesWest tracks destined for the follow up to Big Gen, which never happened. & then you've got those tracks which got 'sessioned' by the producer (Jon...
