Re: Reassessing the situation

And on the Steve Howe front I love the man even though he has only ever spoken one rather angry sentence to me. Fragile when they worked with him could not speak highly enough of how he was with them both on a personal and professional level and I envy that experience. However, he does seem to have ...

Re: Reassessing the situation

I think part of the objections are based around the fact that he's a singer in a Yes tribute band. Some people have a real problem with tribute bands for whatever reason. I think there would be less objections if they had picked an unknown singer and we'd all heard him on You Tube singing with some ...

Re: Yessong of the Week : Gates

Chris, excellent yes, there is just so much to write about this song and I agree 100% with your analysis of the "progression". I really like the way we go from naivete to outright hatred even before battle is joined - I have to believe that better understanding of this aspect of the human condition ...

Re: Yestalk difficulties

Hi Guys, sorry to cause confusion . . . latest browsers don't make the site faster - suspect that's in some work on the underlying database. Only way it helps is to open tabs for the Yestalk pages you want and then while you are waiting for them to load you can go to another tab and do something els...

Re: Yestalk difficulties

The only hint I can give is to use the latest Firefox or IE 7 with tabbed browsing. Then you can get on while you wait for things to load.

That said this is the only thread of three even that approach has succeeded with just now.

I hope Ed can sort it.

Re: Yessong of the Week : Gates

Yes, Soon does deliver a happy ending. It's a message of hope, and I don't believe Jon is referring to this world and this life but the next. We've always had wars and we always will...until we have the war that ends all wars, Armageddon. Yep, that's easily as good an interpretation as mine. Oh for...

Re: Yessong of the Week : Gates

Excellent choice Simon and very well articulated: I hope you get the response you deserve. I think Relayer is the ultimate Yes album, the one they had been striving for all along. I also wish Patrick Moraz had hung around for at least one more album, but having said that, it’s clear that Going For ...

Re: Yessong of the Week : Gates

When they did "Gates Of Delirium" on the Symphonic tour, I was moved to tears (as I often am at their shows.) What broke it for me was during the battle sequence--at about the 11:17 mark on the Magnification bonus live disc--these bright white lights flashed the audience in sequence with the music ...

Excellent, I have no idea how good this guy is but I like the idea of seeing some of the Drama stuff live. It's not exactly a long album so it's probably not going to make up more than 15-20% of the show. If they can add in something like Parallels plus a few of the old favourites then I'd be more t...

The Wakeman family must have some gene pool. If Oliver has the chops for this then given his father - and I have seen Adam on the Wakeman with Wakeman tour - it makes for one talented family. I'd like to be invited round there for Christmas Day and listen when they say "Let's just play a little pian...

Yessong of the Week : Gates

As this may have stalled, a million apologies if I've stepped on anyone's toes but I've wanted to write this down for a while and ask the question . . . Gates of Delirium – No Happy Ending? <o></o> When Tolstoy wrote “War & Peace” he left an indelible mark on the literary landscape with an epic that...

Re: Yessong of the week: South Side of the Sky

Cracking song, it is one of my all-time favourite Yes riffs and great when you are "up against it". I've lost count of the times in my life when I've faced that difficult task and I've found myself repeating "A river, a mountain to be crossed" over and over. I heard the explanation several times tha...

Hmmm, Madonna singing Pappa Don't Preach to Jon would be amusing before they did a duet of City of Love . You’re not alone in disliking The Style Council, but I thought they were musically very adventurous and a shit-hot band with fantastic songs. As for Weller solo, you should definitely check out Wildwood if nothing else. Bruce Foxton is definitely alive and well and is doing pretty good business wit...

Ha ha - yes, that's a great reference I wasn't aware of and I'm sure (subject to the usual get-out clauses) you're right. In fact Jon has gone further on the elaboration of some of the implications of that 'divine sound'. I need to dig out my copy of Magnification , but I think there's a 'back-stor...

Definitely the making of Talk. Definitely Trevor at his best and of all the long songs made with Trevor and up until The Ladder probably my favourite. I hate to do this, you should all have learned by now but the cream of the crop in this case is William Shatner's version of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". Okay you could argue that it's not the song per se as it's a cover but if you haven't heard it before you simply *must* take a listen; http://...

Re: Yessong Of The Week: Yours Is No Disgrace.

The first verse is repeated three times, but because the first and second versions are so melodically different, they actually feel different lyrically, don’t you think? The first version is urgent and dramatic, whist the second is very laid back: a clever song writing trick to pull off, I believe....

I agree that the artwork on the cover is relatively lame but that doesn't effect the songs Agreed 100%. What it did do was affect my impression of the album which coupled with Rick not being on it meant that I stupidly didn't give it the chance it deserved. Seeing the songs live kind of made me ope...

Re: Do You Have A "Holy Trinity"?

I don't have a Holy Trinity, it's just Yes and Rush that stand out for me.

In many ways if I was going to have a trinity it would have to be the Beatles for me for the way that they developed themselves and the music scene around them. But they don't hold sway over me like Yes and Rush.
