Take the line-up of Yes as it is now.

Jon Anderson- Vocals
Steve Howe- Guitars
Chris Squire- bass
Alan White- drums
Tom Brislin- Keyboards

ok heres the catch.......... You have to replace ONE of the members with someone who has never ever been in Yes before. Por ejemple, no Wakeman, Bruford, Rabin, or Levin for that matter. This should be interesting. My change would be to put Keith Emerson on Keyboards.

It'll never happen, but why not ... Billy Joel on keyboards. He and Jon are like the flip sides of the writing coin. It could be a stroke of genius or a total flop. Knowing my luck, it would be a complete flop and Jon would leave again.

Hey, do the replacements have to still be alive? We could have a lot of fun making up an all-time "fantasy band" if we could bring back the dead.

My apologies to Alan...How about Carl Palmer!

The first person who tries to replace Chris has got to die!

I think mine would be me on guitar for a tour as Steve was busy with a solo project - but then I woke up and found it was all a dream

I don't think anyone is going to better Johann Sebastian on Keys Guildigger, but perhaps a slightly more achievable addition might be Tony Banks - with songwriting input! I hear his little outfit aren't doing much either. Do our boys' agents know his agent?

Dahni, if you're feeling adventurous, try the album "Weather Report"--Heavy Weather. Several numbers on this wonderful effort will demonstrate Jaco Pastorius' phenomenal skill. He has since passed on, he wasn't old, 35 , beaten up by a bouncer of all things.
There are, of course, several other examples of his uncanny skill available, I'm just partial to this one in particular.

Not to insult Jaco's talent posthumously, but just the thought of replacing Chris should be considered sacrilege IMHO. Jon too, but sadly that's already been done and nobody can change history.

I wonder sometimes if there would still be Yes without Chris. It's difficult to imagine who could replace him.

Okay, if not me and no one has leapt at my offer (surprise surprise) my vote would go to Steve Morse. As I have said before in another thread he revitalised Deep Purple and I am sure he would be one of the few guitarists in the world capable of providing the fresh, interesting input the band requires.

Interesting idea of Peart on drums . . .

And if they were to head more towards the 90125 era style how about Brian May? Radical I know but it would be interesting!

Simon.

PS Yes I would much rather that they didn't!

I know no one else here would even consider replacing Jon, but I'm all for digging up Jeff Buckley and giving him a shot. He'd either sink or swim!

Jeff Buckley, born in 1966 in California.Started making a name for himself during the early 90's in New York.Revered by critics, fellow musicians, and anyone who saw him in concert,Jeffs first comercial release was an EP 'Live at Sin-e'in 1993.Influences including Led Zepplin, Lenoard Cohen, MC5, Edith Piaf and NusratFateh Ali Khan, all shone through on his debut album 'Grace' released in 1994.Power ,senstivity and grace are words that come to mind to describe Jeff live.He toured the world extensivly during his short career, playing a series of dates in Australia throughout February 1996.I was lucky enough to witness his concert in Brisbane, this man was possesed by his music, with an enormous vocal range, virtuoso guitar skills and meshed in a crack band, created an awesome, unforgetable show.Sadly Jeff accidently drown in a river in Memphis on May 29, 1997 during reheasals for his second album.'grace' is a good starting point for any fan of prog.Highly recomended, you wont be disapointed.
