Wow - hubby just played a CD - <i>The Shaming of the True</i> - by this incredible musician, who I had heard of and about, but whose music itself I had not heard until tonight. It was fantastic!! Alan told me of the circumstances of his VERY untimely passing several years ago as we were listening, and I cried...what a tragic loss. <img src=pix/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> Young and seemingly in the prime of his musical career. Would I have followed this man and his music all over. Any thoughts on him?

Kevin Gilbert was an incredibly unique musician. One of my heroes regarding lyric writing, btw. He seemed to be able to mediate his most intimate thoughts and feelings through his words and low key lingering songs... "Water under the Bridge" from "The Shaming..." or "Tea for One" from "Thud", just to name a couple ("Thud" happens to be my personal favourite album). And maybe we should've seen it coming? Anyway, he was One of a kind!

If you haven't already, listen to his work with the band "Toy Matinee"! Where he collaborated with the very talented keyboardplayer Patrick Leonard. A guy whose later solo albums is well worth checking out for themselves. In this case I could recommend the album: "Rivers".

<i>"Here I am again with the bright lights on my face and I am lonely..."</i>

Thanks for the info, Haze! I will definitely check out more of Kevin's work, including that with Toy Matinee. I am digging <i>The Shaming...</i> tremendously - it gets better and better with each listen. And yes, his lyrics are great.
Patrick Leonard I have not heard of, so he will be another one I have a listen to, as I am a great fan of good keyboardists! <img src=pix/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
Thanks again!

Kevin was an amazingly talented young man and he is deeply missed - personally and professionally. If you get a chance, check out his version of "Kashmir" - nothing short of brilliant!!!

Let's resurrect this thread 10 years on!
Discovered Mr Gilbert's Shaming Of The True a few months ago via the excellent Progzilla podcast (always worth downloading). Great stuff :icon_smil
