It's been beans for us this week too . . . I made a big pot of chili with black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, some mushrooms, and a pound of ground turkey . . . will finish off the dregs tonight.

My doggie Rukia died Tuesday night . . . she had gotten loose outside, and apparently hit by a car on her way home - she died in the driveway next to my car . . . it's been a sad week for me and J.J. . . :(

Massive rainstorm here yesterday evening . . . torrential downpour left me totally soaked by the time I got to the car from work . . . standing water in the streets around the parking lots, bad enough that I was quite concerned driving through them, but there wasn't really any alternative either! I arrived home and took a long, hot shower and got warm and dry finally. The "official" count was 1.27 inches of rain . . . there HAD to be more than that downtown!

Back home from a funeral.
The son of the bassplayer in one of my bands took his own life about two weeks ago.
Me and some of the guys from the band played 'Rainy Night in Georgia', 'Hickory Wind' and 'I Shall Be Released' at the memorial afterwards.

In a couple of hours I playing a birthday party with another band...

YES, there was a confirmed tornado hit next to the hotel I work.
It turned over two tractor trailers on both sides of I-40 and took out the
entranceway sign for my hotel. Luckily, no one was seriousily hurt.

On a positive note I was fortunate enough to come into comp tickets for
a concert this Monday evening....

The Nashville Symphony hosts
the Chick Correa/John McLaughlin 5 Piece Band

I saw John McLaughlin with the MO at Wake Forest U while I was there..

Just read this - I didn't realize there had been a tornado, but I'm not surprised. I got caught in the traffic with the submerged vehicles apparently too - I was on a street that merged into West End, when police came and blocked our way, and folks had to turn around - apparently they didn't want anyone else driving into the deep water.

It WAS like a flash flood - just tons of water dumped in a short timespan . . . I drove through quite a bit of standing water that afternoon.

Glad you weren't at the hotel when the tornado hit . . . :)

I'm so sorry to hear that - pets can bring great joy, but they also can bring real heartache. We have two young Labradors here - everytime they go off the lead is a moment of stress. & huge relief when they're safely back..

Best wishes to you & JJ.

Nolan, you constantly amaze me with the stuff you come up with! Still laughing here . . . :)

Thanks to all who offered condolences about Rukia . . . she's very much missed . . . my little kitten Sophia was her great friend too, and they played constantly. Sophia's been really lonely since Rukia died . . . :(

Tom, I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's son . . . sounds like a beautiful tribute was paid to him . . .

And Chris, I'm sorry to hear about YOUR dog . . . our pets are very special to us, and they really get into our hearts . . .

I'm working on a story where dogs abound at the moment....

Supposed to have thunderstorm but it didnt materialize yet....

Full moon casts an eery light on the Pacific horizon below....

Another racoon , too. Man they just stare at me at night, probably trying to figure out a way to get in house....

Haven't made plans for my summer guitar tour of Europe....busking in the streets....maybe getting cold feet.....

Chased a confused possum down the hotel entraceway last night, blowing the van horn and blinking the headlights..
I'm sure the possum is plotting it's revenge as I type..
Probably will hide out in the back of the hotel van and will attack and cover my eyes while I drive down the interstate tonight, kamikaze style...

I do see them from time to sitting outside a back entrance door, "waiting"....
They always ask, "Do you know the way to Greenglade's house?"

The Possumator..."I'll Be Back"...

yeah, we have possums, too, spooky critters, one died near the barbecue a few years ago,big animals sometimes...aggressively look for food, dont keep doors open....

only seen a snake once, a garden snake little thin thing....the rattlesnakes usually inhabit the canyons and fields, dont come in gardens....

Lizards once in a while , they prefer undevelopped patches of open land...

dont like the racoons, they just stare and dont move....some of the squirrels were tamed by a next door neighbor, even come up to get peanut shells expectantly......

the funnies tthing i saw was when a squirrel was scaling a palm tree and up really high, then a slipped and fell like 30 feet ...hahahahahahha

George Jones . . . country singer and famed drunk around these parts - often teamed with the late Tammy Wynette for songs, and they were once married before their "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" . . . ;)

http://www.georgejones.com/home/

Nolan, you cracked me up with your possum tale . . . the "Possumator" . . . love it!

Greenglade - since that possum died near the barbecue, you should have just popped it on to roast . . . I've heard they make good eatin' . . . lol

At work catching up on things since I was off all morning taking my son to the dentist to get his braces OFF! Whoo-hoo!!!

They'd probably hunt all his critters for him and have a feast!

Looks like Ellie has updated her hairstyle a bit . . . lol

ATM - at work trying to revamp some things here to allow for the "downsizing" that's going to happen next June - we have time to make changes, but are starting to document everything since we don't know exacly who will be around after the fallout.

Leaving early today to go to a pre-surgery appointment for my son - this one is a genetics consult - they're wanting to rule out (or in) any genetic disorders that could affect his back surgery this summer. Wish us luck . . . :)

Reading this riveting book, set up like the tv series "24"..
It chronicals all the minute details of everyone connected to JFK and those 5 days in 1963..minute by minute.....amazing, you feel as if you're a fly on the wall of many places at once....and it's probably the most factual account of what happened and why ....

ATM at work - back from running the payday errands.

We now have two more pre-surgery appointments to be set up - one is a heart evaluation, one is an eye evaluation - they're looking for things prompted by the genetics consult that could potentially be problems. Keep your fingers crossed for us that all is well and the surgery goes smoothly . . . my son has severe scoliosis that we've tried to deal with by alternative means, so this is the last resort.

Ooh - I've seen those in MY backyard too!

It would probably rival Greenglade's "game preserve", minus the peacocks. We get all manner of birds, both songbirds and birds of prey. I've seen plenty of possums, rabbits, even deer . . . my property borders some natural parkland that runs between the houses and the river . . . there's just a few trails through it, otherwise it's not developed.

But no peacocks . . .

at this moment, contemplating getting fired for what I believe in. they want to fire me for climbing 100 feet high on a navy destroyer to do my job on a windy day, with out a safty harness. If I hadnt, the job would had not been done. I cant believe that I took a job to support men and women, who give their all, who die for us, even tho some may condem them for serving, and not just sitting their fat lazy butts on a couch and complaining. I feel the least I can do for those who give there lives, is to over come my fear of hieghts, and get a job done they may save some of thier lives. And I owe it to my wife, who tho, beleives differntly then me in many ways, supports me in what I do, when she married me, she knew I didnt work on designing computers or washing machines.

Peace will come to us when we get off our safty couch and give of our selves.
I work for a defense company, but also, activly protest for peace.

Sorry for crying like a little girl, but being 1000 miles from my love, working 20 hours a day, and risking my life, then being told I am going to fired for that, by some one, who has never sacrificed there life for a cause, gets me worked up.

I geuss I just I just want to say, that I hold myself prostrate befor those who give SOOOO much more then me. I belive that most of us have no idea what it is like to answer a domestic deput call, climb a ladder to save a dog, or hold a child who has been orfened because their pararents beleived in freedom, and where killed. or a soilder who has given his life so woman would not be tourtured and killed for ala. Do not fool your selves. these men did not die for Bush. I would not have died for bush, but I would damn sure die for all of those, whos lives have been changed, for the better.

before my brother died in Iraq, his commanding officers where going to throw him out of the ARMY because he kept preaching the word of God, Now Im NO saint, no where near my brother. but at my brothers funeral, those same officers got up, and cried at his berial. I only wish, is to have the same conviction my brother did. I can only hope to be half the man he was.
