Does anyone knows whatever happened to Harrison(a.k.a stevehoweistheMAN )?
Since I came back to this forums i haven´t seen him around, we had great and crazy conversations back in 2005.
Did he leave Yestalk or just changed his username?

Could be that, he used to have a rather violent temper when cornered or contradicted by others.

Yeah, I was lurking at that time as well, and didn't participate in the convo (it was in a Politics thread of some sort, I believe) but he got very defensive & angry (about the war, etc) and got banned...
Attacks, name-calling, etc... it was a pretty ugly back-and-forth. o_o

I was sad... I really liked him, he was a great YESyouth on the site and was otherwise super-cool. :(

After 2004 election I went "non politicial" too as to not to get banned as well...I still can't believe we've elected Bush/Cheney twice....
anyway....
Maybe if Harrison is "lurking" or anyone has his email address we could lift
the ban if he vows stays away from "politics".....He was a great contributor towards the music scope of things and I think he was in a prog rock band as well...
I called him during the YES concert from Chicago and had him on conference call with Amy/Roan's Lady, Diane/tardistraveler and myself listening to some YES 2004 tunes!!

Yeah the politics thing has burned me more than once
I try not to get personal with it
but that gets hard when people attack you personally
I was NOT in favor of banning anyone for getting a little heated regarless of what I thought of their politics
I did post that at the time
but those in power didn't agree
I respect the decision
but never agreed with it
I allway took the position of Warning people or deleting Offensive posts
Rather than banning the individual
unless they were relentless
even after those measures were taken.
in america
and perhaps Worldwide
things got wild after 911
people needed
and probably still need, with the war and all, Lot's of space and freedom of expression
so I give the guy a pass .
if your heavily involved in a forum like this
it's natural to express youself from time to time
it just has to be remembered that other members will allways oppose you
and you probably arn't going to change anybody's mind
I'd be in favor of lifting the Ban
but He could allways get a new name and come back
maybe he has.
the bans used to block the Isp # but now ISP'S are randomized everytime you restart your computer
at least with windows ME,XP,2000,Vista
I think Ed can still read the servers but that isn't as telling as it once was.

Last time we spoke i remember he was recording a cd with his band, i didn´t have chance to hear it though.
Political oriented discussions always tend to become a little violent.
it´s the nature of human beings to fight for their beliefs, i didn´t participate in such discussions but from what i read here i find it very normal.
It´s rather fascist to ban someone just because he gets agitated when it comes to politics.
Can we bring him back?

I think he did have a second username in there somewhere... similar to his first, just with a little change. I'd be in favor of lifting any ban, too, that is, if he even wants to come back here after all that ruckus. :\ It was a bit more severe than just "aggitation"- so I really respect the mod's decision. I'm not sure how long "bans" here are for anyway, whether it' a perma-ban or just temp. o_o??

I always liked Harrison . . . I seem to recall his "initiation" in the chat room one night . . . ;)

I never saw the posts that prompted the ban . . . I know he took his politics pretty seriously.

The trick is, on these forums, to express yourself with respect for others opinions. Not everyone here shares the same political views, just as not everyone in our respective countries has the same political views. It's OK to disagree. It's NOT OK to berate someone else because you don't agree with their views, or they don't agree with yours.

I've found that if you can keep political discussion respectful, you actually learn some things. You might wonder at first how someone could POSSIBLY support this, or that, but in a respectful discussion, you gain some insight to their views, and usually discover things you've never considered. That doesn't mean you change YOUR view necessarily, although it could result in that, but at least you understand how someone else can view it differently.

I've reevaluated my positions on things a number of times over the years, in part due to hearing what others on the web have to say.

If you can't keep the discussion respectful though, it can be a bloodbath, and yeah, people get banned . . .

I really hope Harrison's band is doing well - he sent me several songs of theirs, and I was impressed . . . I know some of the CA folks went to see them play out there and were impressed as well.

If anyone here is in contact - tell him I said hi . . . :)

I remember that dude was a bit over the top with his Israeli militancy, total Zionist at 17 or whatever. He probably enlisted.
