Hiya, Kota - Happy 21st!!! ENJOY!!! But be safe, too, k? New Year's Eve is a scary night......

I remember David's 21st (my oldest son - he turned 22 a few weeks ago) - he came up to New England from Virginia to spend it with myself, his uncle (my brother) and his grandfather (my father). He wanted 3 generations belly up to the bar that night. We had a BLAST...

Ok, I SORTA remember his 21st birthday :D Considering I don't normally drink, it didn't take much for me that night......

Back when I turned 21, it was an afterthought, since the drinking age and voting age had just been lowered to 18!

So, 18 was the biggie then, not 21.

And actually, I don't remember anything particularly special happening on either of those birthdays - by the time I was 18, I was halfway through my freshman year in college, and had been drinking for months. It's funny, I never got carded anywhere until AFTER I turned 18!

:o Thanks so much, you guys! *hugs everyone*
Sorry I didn't get to respond till now (Happy New Year, btw!) but I woke up this morning (or... yesterday at this point...) put my laundry in the washer, and jumped in the shower, when the power oh-so-conveniently went out! LOL. So no compy all day. Ugh.

Anyway. My bday was great- no drinking for me (still)- LOL, but still great. Hung out with the fam, played a lot of Guitar Hero III, and went out to eat... 21 is weird, the older I get the more I HATE my birthday... it started out horribly, I was extremely moody and upset (about a number of things, not just my bday), but it actually pulled together to be a great night once I got out of the house~ ♥

AND I got the lamest yet best present ever- an electric can-opener. Yesss!! :D

Ahh, a "lonesome electric banana"?

Kota, birthdays are like Mondays - they're gonna come 'round no matter what we do, so we might as well enjoy 'em. And, it doesn't matter if you drink or not, long as you're smart about whatever you DO do and you use common sense....

Diane, I turned 18 and 3 days later, the drinking age went to 19. I turned 19 and 3 days later the drinking age went to 20. I turned 20 in California and the drinking age was 21. I turned 21 here in Virginia and was FINALLY legal for the duration. Now? I rarely drink... but I DID exercise my right to legally consume intoxicating beverages rather frequently (usually to excess) for about 10 years, then went tea totaler for the next 11. Now it's an occasional drink (if even THAT often) and I RARELY get drunk... I don't like the feeling of not being in control of myself.

However, I will admit that as a teenager, I drank regularly (and usually to excess) from the time I was 16, and rarely got carded.

Dean, guess they just saw you coming and HAD to raise the limit! lol

I turned 18 in 1972, just in time to vote, although in retrospect I don't know if I made the right choice . . .

Kota, enjoy your electric can opener . . . is it yellow??? ;)
