What's your favorite Skyline???

Post: # 112423Post ImstillYesmam

I have traveled many places and have never seen anything like the skyline of Pittsburgh.

Coming into Pittsburgh from the parkway one enters the Fort Pitt tunnel, a big hole in a hill,,,,,,when you get to the other end at the Fort Pitt Bridge, Pittsburgh just EXPLODES into view, it's incredible.

I've lived here all my life and never get over the anticipation going thru the tunnel and then having the Burg laid out in front of me. Night or day,,,it's just a beautiful sight.

What is your favorite skyline?
Theres a time, and the time is now, and it's right for me,
Theres a word, and word is love, and it's right for me. [:yes]

My favorites are Edinburgh, Scotland, and Boston, Mass. And London, depending on the vantage point. Although I've never been there, Sydney, Australia, looks like a fantastic skyline as well.

And, sometimes it's just a matter of sentiment. I grew up in Los Angeles and that skyline will always be dear to me. Also, Phoenix, where I've lived for nearly half my life.

London from the riverside is pretty cool, now it's all been lit up..

The Sky up in Western Scotland is pretty stunning too (take your pick of any waterside setting, with rocks & water.. especially when the sun is setting). In & around the loch, mountains come out of the sky...

Seattle I really liked to, if you'd like one in the US..

& what about the City of My Birth..? with the 3 Graces down on the waterfront..

In the Town where I was born,
lived a man who sailed to sea...
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines...

as one of it's other famous inhabitants once sang.. :D :D

Forgot to mention Stirling, breathtaking. Inverness, too. I LOVE Scotland, and for non-city skylines you can't do better. My faves are Loch Tay, Loch Ness, anyplace in the Cairngorms.

Where on the waterfront were you born?

I agree, Amy... I agree!!!!!!

I have a couple - yes, I do like Boston's, although I do agree it depends on the viewed angle...

LA is ... rather interesting, the way that little group of towers just kinda sticks up in the middle of the urban sprawl....

However, my favorite is the Virginia Beach skyline as viewed from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel while heading south... last time I saw that, I was coming home..... and it was a REALLY good feeling. One I hadn't felt in a LONG LONG time.

I was supposed to go to Liverpool in 2003, when I stayed in Lancaster for a week. But I got sick that day and had to stay behind at the hotel. My friend loved it. I still want to see that skyline very much, one day!

I haven't been to many really big cities, but I love the Chicago skyline, as seen from Lake Michigan . . . it's really impressive, and several landmark buildings in view . . .

And there's nothing like that first glimpse of the Nashville skyline when coming home from a LOOOOONG trip . . . ;)

Oh, yes, both Chicago and Nashville have great skylines! I especially like the "Bat Tower" in Nashville!

It's a tall building with spires on either side that just looks like a bat tower... Here's link to an explanation.

You will love it, it's a very nice city. Pretty rolling hills and much more diverse than you would imagine. Site of some fabulous Yes gatherings! And home of our very own Diane and Nolan.

I tried to imbed a pic of the Nashville skyline, but apparently it isn't working . . .

So, here's a link to a lot of pics! Skyline included . . . ;)

Thanks for posting the link to the "Bat Tower", Linda. J.J. and I had the pleasure of going up in that one once - a guy I worked with had access - his wife worked there. They met us one Saturday and took us up to the observation level - quite a view! Afterwards, they took us to the garage and showed us where "Batman" parked his car . . . lol . . . J.J. was a little guy then, and ate that up!

Christine, you SHOULD visit us here! We'll show you a GREAT time! :D

I have no doubt about that Diane. I've been for going to Tenn. since I met you and Nolan online all those years ago, but I always get voted down in favor of the beach for vacation. Maybe this year I'll have to put my foot down! :icon_whip

Aside from having the most wonderful tour guide, Diane, there are lots of interesting places to see. Although I am not a country music fan, I really enjoyed the Country Music Hall of Fame, lots of interesting musical history. And I took a tour bus to the Jack Daniel's distillery, that was really cool, too. Although, since it's in a dry county, you cannot sample the wares or buy any whiskey from the distillery itself. Diane knows of a wonderful Indian restaurant, and I found a deli called "Noshville." And who knows, maybe Nolan's Den of Iniquity will be open for public viewing soon!

Let`s be real here, everyone knows the best skyline in the world is NYC. It`s the greatest city in the world and it has the best people living here, such as myself. That is undisputed ;) . I`ll put it this way; you haven`t lived until you have seen New york. Wte have the best museums, theater, shopping, the best food and i could go on and on. There`s always something to do here and you can nver get bored, but on the downside, it is not cheap
Yeah, we lost the trade center, but we`ll get something that will replace it eventually. But the skyline is still awesome and impressive.
Even upstate New york is impressive. You have gentle rolling hills, mountains, and lakes. Not just the concrete and steel kind.
Oh,yeah, and hiya mam!!!

The New York skyline is certainly one of the most RECOGNIZABLE, for sure.

I've never been to New York proper, but was thrilled to finally see the skyline for real when landing at Newark a few years back . . . felt so proud to see the Statue of Liberty, and all the other famous buildings . . . I was glad I had a window seat on the correct side of the plane . . . ;)

I'll get there some day, and I expect a native to show me around . . . seems there's lots of Yesfriends who live in/near the area . . . :)

A couple of years ago I went to see family in PA, and my cousin and I did a day trip to NYC. It was raining and very cold, but we bought rain ponchos and sat up on the top deck of one of those red tour buses to see the sights. It was great, and we had to top to ourselves, a rare occurrence in NYC! We got off in Soho and had a fabulous dinner at an Indonesian/Indian fusion restaurant, my two favorite kinds of foods in one place! Who knew!! It was a very fun day and I'd love to go back one day and spend more time there.

I could see the Hudson River and Bear Mountain State Park from my house in Peekskill, NY when I lived there and YES, riding the train to and from Manhattan daily allowed me the pleasure of seeing the NYC skyline for 4 glorious years...As I've told many many folks, it's my favorite place....
nothing is like it...
