Max Graham Versus Yes

Post: # 87079Post doogee

Earlier tonight my son was flicking through the music channels and i said to him "Leave that on a minute"
It was a funked / jazzed / hiphoppy version of Owner and i thought what the **** is this!
Anyway as it happens IT WASN'T THAT BAD!
This bloke Max Graham actually hasn't ruined it.
Has anybody else seen the vid / heard it ? and if yes, what do you think ?

Max Graham is a club DJ. His mix of Owner is getting pretty heavy airplay on BBC Radio One and also a local dance music station (I have to put up with such stations at work!) The celebrity DJ Pete Tong is said to be a big fan.

The Owner remix is due out on, I think, May 16th.

I boldly predict it will be a top 5 single :) And perhaps a number 1!

Another Yes renaissance perhaps?? I won't hold my breath, but this will certainly give the band some much needed exposure.

‘Owner’ is Canadian Max's favourite all-time record so he embarked on a feat of sound engineering to update Trevor Horn’s original - splitting it into 400 component parts and reconstructing it by adding deep baselines, contemporary percussion and synths!

Says Max: “I used to listen to this album on the twenty minute drive to school while living in California, playing the air drums to “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” on the steering wheel. Never did I dream it would come back into my life in this form so many years later!”

Along with ‘Video Killed The Radio Star’, ‘Owner of a Lonely Heart’ was one of UK production guru Trevor Horn’s early breakthroughs. He went on to produce hits by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Seal, Grace Jones, Tatu, Simple Minds, Cher, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Paul Macartney and the original Band Aid members, and is unquestionably one of the world’s most highly respected producers.

Yes’s original release has been rocking electro dance floors for the last 18 months with DJ's like Tiefschwarz & Too Many DJ's making their own edits and dropping them to incredible crowd responses. Max's version - first played live at Creamfields by Deep Dish last year - has added a brand new twist for 2005 and taken the track to the next level.

I would love the see the video. I was able to access the website. But, I was unable to view the video. Exposure of this nature is very good indeed.

We have a sound studio at home. I might make an attempt at remixing Yessongs - what a mess that would be. How could I improve on the music of the greatest band in the world? I could do dance versions of some of their songs. I think it would be fun. I've done some song writing - that's not real song writing but looping ,sampling and remixing a bit. Not P Diddy variety but more Moby. I'm still thinking it would sound awful. But I'll give it a try.

Well, not top 5 (yet perhaps) but it has entered the singles chart at number 9!

Hey, that is good news. I'm glad to hear that the song is updated and re-released. Maybe it could help 901245 sell another four million copies! :D

Lol, if you ever get to see the video you'll understand why this comment is too funny :D

And I agree with you!!!

On the more serious note I'd love to have a sound studio and play with this stuff but I doubt anyone would want to listen to the results!!

Simon.

I just saw the video. A flesh parade. LOL!

I also listened to all of the remixes. Quick observation: Common backbeat]
Let's see Max Graham tackle some tougher Yes tunes. I'm not a muscian. I hope this makes sense.

Cool  Maybe he'll give it a try. It will be a challenge though.
