Guitarists Needed for Europe/UK gig(Howe and classical influenced)

Guitarists Needed for Europe/UK gig: Steve Howe, S. Hackett, Greg Lake, Julian Bream, Rutherford-Genesis, etc. influenced

Acoustic Busking

(as variation of my previous post : http://forum.yestalk.org/showthread.php ... post111686)

I have a fledgling plan to go busking(playing in the streets) as a wandering minstrel this spring/summer.

I have extensive experience, over a decade, living and travelling in Europe(both resident and free form traveller)and speak several Euro languages fluently; and did lots of open mike, small bar gigs, and a few busking experiences under my belt in different European capitals.

This is just an idea at moment, a rough plan...

I'd need fellow musicans(mainly guitarists) who have at least some talent playing Steve Howe, Steve Hackett, Paco de Lucia/Al DiMeola--Steve Howe, S. Hackett, Greg Lake, Julian Bream, Rutherford-Genesis, , etc, guitar pieces and who could peform bravely in a guitar duo/trio out in public on streets or finding temporary gigs in bars and pubs.

The extended vagabonding "gig" would entail courageous playing in public (with or without portable battery-powered amp), lots of trains, hitchhiking, hiking, walking long distances, some rough camping when necessary, staying in cheap hotels, and being open to adventure. Partner guitarists must be willing to undergo certain discomforts of "vagabond" travelling...technical comforts such as Internet and music will be possible(PDA, Mp3 players-if you have them)

At present my repertoire includes Howe solo pieces, Bach guitar, Vivaldi,Hackett solo pieces, Yes, Genesis, Paco de Lucia, Satie, and several classical concert level pieces, plus some rock and jazz and flamenco(paco de Lucia) and ragtime stuff I have composed.

Stuff to take: Backpack, guitar or other instrument, portable battery-powered amp?

This is all in initial planning stages..

Income would depend on how well we play/how generous the audience!

sounds like a wonderful idea, but I cant commit the time to it (wish I could!) not sure my guitar playing's up to snuff either.. but if you're planning to come anywhere near Stonehenge, give me a shout - maybe we can have a jam?

Best

Thanks for reply. I am still a bit hazy as to howe(excuse the pun) I will do it, maybe just like in old days(no amplifier) with a new guitar....Stoenhenge sounds great, possibly we can do a Spinal Tap alternative with a small scale model outside the roped off monument :D

there's plenty of space outside the 'ropes' and also other nearby monuments where things are not so restricted - Aveburys standing stones, Silbury Hill (aka Gabriel's Solsbury Hill..). Salisbury - nearby Cathedral city - is good for busking, esp if you have 'real' talent.

Happy to advice on any suggested locations - there's some nice (& likely busy) places in the South West - Devon, Cornwall) that are worth a visit.

I think the thing to do, if you wanna tour England, playing music as you go, is book it & finance it as a holiday, but dont expect busking to pay your way around. There's a fair few undesirables around the 'vagrant/busking' scene & if you camp under hedgerows your beloved gtr is likely to take a hike all of its own (probably not un-aided).

There are some lovely campsites & some beautiful places to go & to travel thro' but going to a nice warm greek island is probably far more appealing!

Mamma Mia...

So far, I haven't touched my new guitar in 2 months, have gained about 10 or more non-hiking-friendly pounds, and spent a lot on a trip to Canada....

See what happens when you're out of town and NOT chasing those peacocks!
You should "work out" like me and construct things with heavy objects like my "Wood Henge"....

Didn't feel like tromping 'round Europe alone like Aqualung......but, I hiked down to a local former nude beach, "sacred cove" for my summer thrill..no nudists, but a double-opening sea cave in the cliff and clear waters like old California(ie, Ventura Ranch" surfspot)...

Yeah, not something I'd really want to try unless I had the cash to back it up, and take care of myself if the music wasn't paying for itself.

Are you thinking about going back to Spain?
